As federal government officials nixed Carroll County as a possible site to host hundreds of wayward illegal immigrants, President Obama was playing golf just minutes away at a private country club in Montgomery County and is set to take a relaxing vacation at the exclusive island retreat of Martha’s Vineyard next month.
Congressional candidate Dan Bongino, who once served on the Secret Service’s presidential protective detail, said the President’s priorities are clearly misplaced and are more aligned with Emperor Nero, who is noted for having fiddled while Rome burned, than with modern U.S. Presidents facing a crisis situation.
“President Obama fiddles with golf clubs and finds time to come to Maryland and without any due diligence, he is prepared to dump a load of illegal immigrants into Carroll County. Moreover, while the President enjoys elite athletic competition and playing cynical politics similar to Nero, he has done nothing on illegal immigration except sign executive orders and blame Congress for refusing to follow his doctrinaire policies.”
Obama’s July 12 golf outing at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Montgomery County will be followed by additional leisure time for most of August at Martha’s Vineyard which will include yet more golf. Meanwhile, Congress is being asked to cobble together a $3.7 billion emergency appropriation to handle the influx of a record 57,000 children who streamed across the border this year. The mass exodus is due to confusion over U.S. laws regarding child immigration from certain countries.
“The President could have played nine holes at Avenal Farm and used the remainder of that time to do his job and meet with elected officials and community leaders in Carroll County. The President could be convening working meetings with members of Congress and his agency heads to determine the best use of additional funds and changing the 2008 law that is unleashing a throng of children into the U.S.” Bongino said.
Federal officials have not disclosed why Carroll County was under consideration but plans are underway to open a facility in Baltimore.

Actually the House has been very productive. Everything dies in the Senate. They never get to compromise in a joint House/Senate committee because Harry Reid stops everything. Reagan got plenty done with a democrat House and Senate and Clinton got an equal amount done with a republican House and Senate.

Regarding the National Guard, the governors of each state can call up the National Guard if they feel it is necessary. They do not need presidential or congressional approval. The president and congress are limited in their ability to use the National Guard. I will say it again, I agree with Governor Perry that we should stop this problem at its’ source. The source is not the border and it is not President Obama. Instead of wasting time to think up insults for each other, it is time to discuss solid, effective and lasting solutions to this problem.

Texas has spent all the money it can with its own border security. They have boats and patrols right down near the border and are attempting slow down the problem. There is no financial way they can call up the National Guard in the state and give all the proper direction and force necessary to get the job done – and that is just Texas.
By statute, it is the responsibility of the federal government to secure the border and immediately return those attempting to cross. In fact, every attempt by the border states to take additional action against the illegal invasion has been opposed by this administration. The executive branch has gone immediately to court in every single instance.

Well, let’s see: a government agency targets political opponents and then destroys emails and hard drives when the investigation closes in. Executive branch says, “If you like your healthcare plan you can keep it” and then has millions of plans cancelled followed by arbitrary politically motivated changes in the law. The administration wants an amnesty bill and when it doesn’t get it, it gives a ‘dreamers’ directive which causes the current crisis. You know, apposing the current administration looks like the balance of power is at least trying to do its job.
As far as going to court, this is common. Over many issues and many administrations Congress has gone to court: the most recent being the over-turning of executive appointments. Funny, some folks love executive orders but they hate any proper challenge to those orders through the proper judicial system. I guess some folks just want a king – that is as long as he is their king and doing what they want.
You know, we now have an administration running/ruling for almost two complete terms. When does the Bush straw dog run its course? When, oh when is there any responsibility assigned to the executive branch? Under normal circumstances there would be a constant media request for answers to: running guns to Mexico, letting an ambassador get murdered, targeting political opponents and arbitrarily changing laws – the worst of which is causing a border crisis… but not now.
The immigration system isn’t broken, it just needs to be enforced. Seal the borders and only let people in who come here legally. Simple game. There may never be a new immigration bill because the dems want amnesty and open borders and the repubs don’t. Comprise will be very difficult.

My experience doesn’t square with your facts. There are about 3,000 people from my country in the Baltimore area and most of them work or own their own businesses. In the 36 years I have been here, I have known maybe 3 families receiving social services assistance. A few have been illegal too but most are self relliant, working and their kids are doing real well in school. In fact, most of our children have gone to professional careers and are well assimilated in American society. Your generalized facts about immigrants are tainted with fear, ignorance and a complete disregard for the human condition. I recall, Irish were welcomed and accepted, Italian too. Greeks, Polish, German and Jewish. All these groups assimilated at differing rates, some better due to a common language but most after the first generation, were part of the American way. No one screams about a Little Italy or Little Korea or Little China or Greektown in Baltimore, but as soon as there is any Mexican or Latin American presence, then the fear mongers come out. My own brother in law told me during a boxing match why is the guy wearing a mexican bandana? he was upset about it, but seemed to calm down once I told him it was the Italian flag! Once again, let me point out your lack of understanding and misrepresentation: “Ugly American” refers to a novel written in 1958 by Eugene Burdick. It is about Americans abroad, in specific Southeast Asia. The actual ‘Ugly American’, is a sympathetic, but physically unattractive hero, Homer Atkins – who lives with the locals, understands their needs and helps with projects. Years after the book was published the term was used to describe the boisterousness of Americans abroad but has nothing to do with your undeserved, implied rant.
Sad really, that when you wake up in the morning the first thing you do is put on race-colored glasses – so there is no reasoning with you. I think he was from Florence (not a part of Italy at the time) but I guess you can school our foreign friend into thinking your way. Using ugly american in his context was fine without having to refer to some original context. an ugly american is one that you seem to represent quite well.
Amerigo actually comes from latin as Americus. The latin given name is used quite often such as is Christopher Columbo (Columbus) is used in latin and Columbo in Italian. Nothing wrong with Americo as is mostly used in south american countries. Don’t be an ugly american..
I see that on this thread quite a bit and boisterous isn’t one of the terms I’d refer to it. In today’s implied meaning it means an unreasonable person, unable to comprehend basic economic and social trends, incapable of putting together coherent reasoning, easily swayed by the political trend of the day, overly nationalistic, not really having a good grasp of his own country’s history and its place in the world. Not in my backyard mentality prevails as if the world wide economy really cares about what you consider your land and worldly place in the world.
