From Harford County government:
The Harford County Office of Information and Communication Technology is the recipient of the 2014 Community Broadband Fiber Network of the Year Award. The county’s technology office received the award for their efforts in bringing the countywide Harford Metro Area Network (HMAN) to fruition. The HMAN connects county and municipal government as well as Harford County Public Schools, Harford County Public Libraries and the Volunteer Fire Companies to the Internet.
“This is exciting news for Harford County. Broadband is an important part of our quality of life for citizens. This is an excellent way to honor a project that improves government and public options in broadband technology,” said Harford County Executive David R. Craig.
Commenting on the selection of the Harford County Office of Information and Communication Technology for the national award, Director Ted Pibil said, “This project was the culmination of a total team effort and partnership between various stakeholders. HMAN will significantly improve the quality of service and interoperability between various entities of government. I am proud of the efforts put forth by so many talented individuals to ensure the successful implementation of this initiative, and we are honored to be recognized nationally for our work,” Pibil added.
The Board of Directors of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) honored the Harford County Office of Information and Communication Technology with the award. NATOA will honor HMAN as 2014 Community Broadband Fiber Network of the Year on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 12:30pm at the Awards Luncheon during their Annual Conference at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul, MN.
NATOA is a national association representing the needs and interests of local governments and consortiums in promoting community interests in communications. The membership is predominately composed of local government agencies, staff and elected officials.
“On behalf of the NATOA Board and our members throughout the United States, I congratulate you on receiving this award and thank you for serving as a champion of community interests and needs in broadband and technology,” said Tony Perez, NATOA President.
The 34th Annual Conference for NATOA will be held September 29, 2014 to October 2, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul, MN.
