From the Susquehanna Museum at the Lock House:
Ahoy, ye swashbucklers and mates – come and get lost at “Pirate Fest”, being held at the Susquehanna Museum of Havre de Grace the weekend of July 11th – 13th!
The festival kicks off Friday evening, July 11th, with the Pirate Pub Crawl, an event guaranteed to bring out the “ARGHHHH” in you! Starting at 7:00 pm, pirate pub crawlers are invited to pick up their booty bags, grab their treasure maps and go pubbing their way through historic Havre de Grace. Participating establishments include Coakley’s Pub, Laurrapin Grille, MacGregor’s Restaurant, Rodgers House Tavern Tidewater Grille, and the American Legion, and all will be offering exclusive specials to those pirate pubbers! Registration fee for this event is $10 per person and you can preregister at www.thelockhousemuseum.org. Those who preregister have the option of two early departure times and we do sell out, so sign up today!
Saturday morning (July 12th) the festival continues with our Annual Pirate 5k Run, starting at 8 am on the grounds of the museum (also known as the Lock House). Runners and energetic pirates will join at the shore of the Susquehanna River and run along the picturesque Lafayette Trail. The early registration fee is $20 and regular registration will be $25 after June 30th. Awards will be given to top male and female runners in several age categories. T-shirts (these are collectibles, mates!) and swag bags will be given to the first 500 registrants and walk-up registration will also be available at $25. Runners may register online at www.active.com or at www.thelockhousemuseum.org.
The fun continues at the Lock House as our very own Pirate Encampment comes alive, starting at 10am both Saturday (the 12th) and Sunday (the 13th). Be prepared to hear the cannon fire, watch the skirmishes and duels, and learn all about the “pyrat” ways! In addition to the encampment, family friendly activities will be going on throughout the day, including live music by “Pirates for Sail”, children’s costume contests, pirate tales, games and guided tours of the North Park Trail. Visitors will also want to make sure that they take time to tour the Susquehanna Museum, which will be open throughout the day and to check out all of the vendors participating in this year’s encampment. Admission to the encampment will be $3 and children 12 and under will be free.
Saturday evening, adults are invited back to come back and party with the Pirates at our 7th Annual Pirate Gala! Considered the party of the summer, this year’s event will be catered by the Laurrapin Grille and will be held under the tent on the Lock House grounds. “Trop rock” music will be provided by the Chris Sacks Band and auctions will be held throughout the evening. We will also be selling raffle tickets and drawing the winner for our all-inclusive trip for two to Punta Cana! While not necessary, gala participants are encouraged to dress in pirate attire. ARGHHHH! The Gala will be held from 7-11 pm and tickets are available for $55. Gala and raffle tickets are available at the Lock House, the Havre de Grace Visitor’s Center, and online at www.thelockhousemuseum.org.
