From the Darlington Lions Independence Day Committee, Inc.:
Just like the Little Engine that Could, Darlington is the little engine that pulls the Harford County Independence Day train of festivities into the 2014 season of fun and fireworks. Under new volunteer management, this will be the first celebration overseen by the Darlington Lions Club. After a decade of service from several community members, the time has come to pass the baton.
Larry Burton, Chairperson of this year’s event said, “The only thing I really have to say about the Lions Club taking over primary organization of the event is we are following the blueprint laid out by Kira and her former group of volunteers. This year’s celebration is planned for Saturday, June 28”.
Kira Dare, who is stepping down, has been named 2014 Grand Marshal for her years of service and leadership. She said, “It is different being asked to be IN the parade as Grand Marshal as opposed to my participation in selecting the Grand Marshal! I am honored, flattered, humbled and excited to see the crowd from a convertible! I am also thrilled to have my cousin, Elizabeth, riding with me. For all of the years she can remember, she thought I did this whole event for her”!
“I am so pleased that the Darlington Lion’s Club chose to take over the leadership of the Darlington Independence Day Committee. There are many enthusiastic, hardworking members who are doing an amazing job and thereby carrying on our small town Independence Celebration”! Larry agreed saying that Kira’s blueprint and the continued help of certain key volunteers ensures that the event will run smoothly and will be enjoyed by the entire community for years to come.
