Why can’t we just give them beans, rice, eggs, milk and government cheese?
Take away the cash benefits and make sure everyone who is incapable of handling their responsibilities is directly provided sufficient nutrition for their family.

As a resident of Harford County and a college graduate and homeowner, I want to say this is a good program. I believe that the government should be fiscal conservative, but when you are dealing with starving children,,,,all bets are off. We need programs, like this, to help during the summer months. I grew up in a poor household and didn’t have enough food to eat and had to rely on the school system to feed me. There are things you need to spend money on and this is one of them. I, for one, think this is a good program!
Kharn says
The problem is that the families are already receiving cash-equivalent benefits to feed the children, but then they’re given FARM at school and then additional meals over the summer, without reducing the monthly benefits to account for those 10 meals per week.
Vietnam vet says
It is a good program for the kid’s & no doubt there are many who would go hungry with out it.
Tired of the Helton and Dulany-James Mailers says
@ Kharn- get your facts straight Jackass. Most families that qualify for reduced meals do not get any other food assistance.

Tired,
Without calling someone a name, can you explain the fine line here. There are so many overlapping programs I would like to know where food stamps stop and these meals begin. Now, 40% of the population get food stamps. A family of 4 with a monthly gross income of of $2,500 can get food stamps.
Funny, the minute folks question anything, I mean anything at all they are considered heartless. We read claims that children are starving without an additional lunch. Cripes, we read teachers can’t feed their families without $80k per year.
Some of us grew up in poor families without most of these benefits. I don’t recall anybody starving to death. Maybe the parents of some of these kids should be questioned what they do with the $700 per month in food stamps, which we understand is one of the major frauds now underway.
So, like everything else, attack me for asking.

Harford County Public Schools can’t pay their teaches, but they can give away food. It’s time to vote out all the democrats.
Concerned Teacher says
Meals are paid for with Title I/FARM money, not school system money.
Talk to someone different than you says
The meals are paid for by the USDA, not the school system. It’s a federal program, not just in Harford County and not just in Maryland.

Just another Liberal Program to take MY money and give it to others! Just Stop it! All you liberal folks who think I am mean can post up your addresses and invite everyone over to your own houses for free room & board for life. Stop taking MY money that I worked for and giving it to other people who haven’t worked for it! All you do by giving things (food, housing, cell phones, medical care) to people is train them to expect things for free. Guess what? Things aren’t free, unless you are a Democratic Voter.
Problem is says
The problem is that the “social program” like all the other’s is started up with the best intentions, with the benefit of creating jobs, more people on the payroll at 102 S Hickory Avenue. Like everything else, the programs are taken advantage of by just about everyone thus turning it into the biggest cluster fvck with too many chef’s in the kitchen at this point to even think about fixing it because everyone is pointing fingers at the other chef, the solution is to hire more chefs to help lead the other chefs and the work continues. The cycle continues.
The other big problem is that the school system can never say “No,” ever again.
Concerned Teacher says
Maybe YOUR money isn’t funding this program. Perhaps YOUR money is funding the VA hospital. Perhaps YOUR money is helping to pay the salary of a soldier in Afghanistan. Perhaps YOUR money is helping to pay the salary of an FBI agent whose job is to find missing children. YOU don’t know, do you? Quit grandstanding.
Burbey Bunch says
Every month we go 130 billion in the hole on federal spending. Don’t you think it is about time we quit using the old but-we-do-fund-some-necessary-things excuse for the kind of waste, fraud and duplication we also fund.
Same crap on the state level. I guess the $250 million wasted on the website was just a cost of doing business.
Rotten Cheese says
Teacher, going to spend that relaxing vacation here going rounds with peeps? Cool, I’ll sit back and gawk while it appears that while we are lead to believe teachers rush to their cars after the school day ends, in reality, dealing with asshole co workers, disrespectful kids that is rubs off and they have to ce here for that fix?
