From the office of Sen. J.B. Jennings:
Senator J.B. Jennings is proud to announce the finalists and winner of the 2014 “Senator for a Day” essay contest.
In January, Middle and High Schools in Harford and Baltimore Counties were asked to participate in the “Senator for a Day” essay contest. Participants were given the unique opportunity to gain a better understanding of government and politics by writing a 100 word essay highlighting one issue that they would want to change or champion if they were a Maryland State Senator. Some of the topics included environmental, social, judicial and fiscal issues. Personal experiences and passions were also encouraged when writing the essay.
This year, Senator Jennings received an abundant number of entries. He read through over 100 essays before choosing the winner, Ms. Kendall Julian, from Bel Air High School. Kendall’s essay explained how by expanding the use of local, sustainable farmers, we can improve the health of our air and water to boost the local farming economy while still bringing nutritious school lunches to the schools. In addition to being recognized with an official Maryland State Senate Citation, Kendall was also given an invitation to spend the afternoon with the Senator in Annapolis during the legislative session, a photo opportunity on the Senator Chamber floor, special seating on the Senate floor and recognition for her essay.
Senator Jennings would like to congratulate the winner, the participants, parents, teachers, and principals who all made this contest possible. This year, he is proud to announce the following individuals who have participated in the 2014 7th District Senator for a Day essay contest:
