From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
[June 4, 2014, Monkton, MD] — Harford County Sheriff’s deputies, aided by an off-duty Baltimore County Police officer, have arrested two men in connection with a daytime burglary and at the same time seized a quantity of suspected narcotics.
Gary Scott Reif Jr, 36, having no fixed address was charged with breaking, entering and theft; and Farris Edward Alkassim, 38, of 10520 Democracy Blvd in Potomac, Maryland, was charged with possession and possession with intent to use marijuana, hashish, methamphetamine, lorazepam, ecstasy, and possession of CDS paraphernalia. They are currently incarcerated in the Harford County Detention Center in lieu of $20,000 bond each.
On June 3, 2014 at 5:15 p.m., an off-duty Baltimore County Police Officer observed a burglary in progress at 3815 Marcus Court in Monkton and called 911 for assistance. Responding deputies arrived several minutes later. The off-duty officer told police he observed the suspect enter the home and upon approaching the home heard glass breaking. Deputies entered the home. As they checked the residence they heard movement upstairs and confronted the suspect Reif taking him into custody and recovering the property he planned to steal. Responding back-ups units were advised of a possible getaway vehicle parked near-by. Deputies located the vehicle parked a short distance away and occupied by Alkassim. Through further investigation, deputies recovered a quantity of illegal drugs and paraphernalia and took Alkassim into custody without incident.
The property was owned by Gary Reif, Sr., the suspect’s father and Gary Reif Jr. did not have permission to be in the residence. Mr. Reif, Sr. was not home at the time and there were no injuries reported.
