Three women were arrested and one was taken to a regional hospital with a serious knife wound to the head following a fight at an Edgewood basketball court Thursday night, police said.
According to Harford County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Edward Hopkins, a fight broke out shortly after 6 p.m. on basketball court at Cunion Field off Trimble Road in Edgewood. For unknown reasons two women began fighting, Hopkins said, and one began to gain the upper hand as the fight progressed.
In an apparent attempt to support the combatant, a third woman produced a knife and began swinging it at nearby individuals. Hopkins said several people sustained cuts to their arms and shoulders, but one suffered a more severe wound to her head. Deputies and EMS personnel arrived on scene and treated several people for their injuries. The victim with a wound to the head, described by Hopkins as a woman in her late teens or early 20s, was transported to the R Adams Cowley University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening wounds.
Three women, all believed to be in their mid-20s, were arrested for their roles in the fight. Two were taken to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for treatment of minor cuts, while the third was treated at the scene and taken to the Sheriff’s Office Southern Precinct for questioning.
Hopkins said charges have not yet been filed against the three, as investigators continued to interview witnesses and collect information Thursday night. Hopkins said it was not immediately clear whether the fight stemmed from a dispute on the court, or a previous incident, but that those involved knew each other.

Is it time to ban sharp objects?
Holy Crap says
We are becoming immune to these acts of violence. It’s not really newsworthy as it happens all too frequently nowadays. At least they didn’t kill anyone!
Eagle One on the way says
Only if Eagle ONE had been up in the air. It could have stopped the fight because it seeeeees all. Oh wait, that wasn’t drug money paying for the flight…..it was the taxpayers. But they wouldn’t have been able to transport them to the hospital because there can be no riders. Geeeee what to do in the air all that time………get the calculater out and see how much money this useless helicopter is costing us, but the deputies are making the big bucks…
