From the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company:
Wednesday, March 19, 2014 12:02 am the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company (JMVFC) was alerted to a motor vehicle collision in the area of state route 7, Philadelphia Road, and Joppa Farm Road in Joppa.
Units arrived to find a single vehicle on Philadelphia Road, between Bulls Lane and Joppa Farm Road, that had significant damage to all sides. An initial investigation found two adults who were seriously injured near the vehicle. One occupant advised that there was a third person in the vehicle and his whereabouts was not known.
Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera, which allows them to detect different levels of heat, to search the wooded areas on each side of the road for the third person. Approximately 200 feet west of where the vehicle was located, an adult male was found in the woods. Due to the nature of the injuries to two of the patients, two medevac helicopters were requested. Three of the JMVFC paramedic units were on the scene. M892 transported an adult male and M891 transported an adult female, both in critical condition, to the house 1 helipad.
A Maryland State Police medevac transported the male to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in critical condition. A University of Maryland Express Care medevac, operated by PHI Air Medical, LLC, transported the female to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, also in critical condition. M893 transported an adult male, in serious condition, to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Trauma Center. Maryland State Police Troopers requested the light tower to illuminate the incident scene while they conducted their investigation. As of 2:00 am, Philadelphia Road remained blocked between Bulls Lane and Joppa Farm Road.
