If winter weather thinks it can stop state testing this year in Harford County Public Schools, winter weather has another think coming. With a potential snow storm on the horizon, HCPS issued the following warning late Friday afternoon:
“Important [Maryland School Assessment] reminder: If the possible weather events of next week should affect the HCPS schedule, MSA testing (grades 3-8) will still occur. Please see the chart below for more details.”
Otherwise, testing will occur on Monday as planned. Below is the school system’s complete MSA schedule for grades 3 -8, including potential make-up days. Your move, winter weather.

News flash, schools will be closed Monday and also Tuesday and probably late on Wednesday. Look at the local temp forecast, the way harford county clears the roads we’ll be lucky to be functioning by the first day of spring.

I’m not a Harford County employee, but I believe all the agencies that work in this county during a snow storm do a great job in snow removal. BillH, Please explain to me the negativity in your posts regarding the way “Harford County clears the roads?” What more do you want? Perhaps School Busses could all have snow plows installed on them?
The best thing for anyone to do is, uh… not be on the roads, and if you do choose to do so, please have a capable vehicle to traverse secondary roads. Some “common sense” stuff applies; like making sure your tires are in good shape (tread) and making sure there is enough air pressure in them. I know the idea of being prepared escapes so many people these days.

Every other county and the city uses flat rate subcontractors. Harford county uses county employees making overtime. Who do you think has the incentive to get the job done in the least amount of time?

Yeah, you are so right, BIllH. You know it all.

And those “flat rate contractors” are going to establish a flat rate that greatly benefits them, their base price might reflect 6″ of snow per incident so the counties get hosed whenever there is only 2-4″

I do have to say when you drive 152, 24 and 40 there is a dramatic difference between that and all the county roads in the south eastern part!

BillH– you are hemorrhoid ready to burst anytime govt employees get paid for doing their jobs. HCG employees go above and beyond to make sure our roads and infrastructure is as safe as possible so morons like you can complain about paying taxes. What a tool you are sir! County employees get paid for their work and don’t actually try to do less so they will work longer!!! Our flat rate contractors do a good job and get paid handsomely for their work (most make like $200 per hour) as they do supply needed services on as needed basis and pay for their trucks, gas and equipment. The county for the most part is pretty efficient in clearing roads in a timely fashion when weather actually permits safe passage through main roads and secondary streets. The state also does a really good job in clearly interstate and state roads as well. Emergency services and sheriff’s office employees actually do put their lives in danger everyday to provide the needed supports and services to the county residents. I don’t see how you can make such stupid comments and actually feel like you can be taken seriously!!!

Who made this schedule? Is the person even aware of how most middle schools test during MSA? It doesn’t make any sense to only test the 7th grade if we have a delay when normally grades are tested simultaneously. (I would venture a guess that the elementary schools are seeing the same thing with 4th and 5th grade testing.)
