The Havre de Grace Warriors scored 23 points in the fourth quarter Friday night, earning a come-from-behind win, 55-48. 11 of the 23 points came from the free throw line, and the Bobcats were unable to hang on to the lead in the fourth, as they scored 23 points total in the second half.
Bel Air was rolling early, and was up 14-6 late in the first quarter. However, following a timeout, the Warriors ended the first on a 6-0 run to close the gap to 14-12 after one quarter. JD Bruck scored six points in the opening frame, including a three pointer. He would hit four three point attempts on the evening.
Defense was the theme in the second quarter, as there was a total of just 16 points scored between the two teams, nine for the Bobcats and seven for the Warriors. Zayron Blake and Chop Jones each had a bucket for the Warriors in the frame, while Bruck scored four more for the Bobcats, giving him a game-high ten at the break. The Bobcats went into the locker room at halftime up 25-19.
Bel Air maintained their lead through the third quarter, helped by a Bruck buzzer beating three pointer, making it 37-32 Bobcats with eight minutes to play. Kareem Croxsell got things going in the quarter, as he scored six points in the frame. Bruck had five in the quarter for the Bobcats.
The Warriors turned up the offense in the fourth quarter. Jordan Hawthorne got going, as did Derek Lilly. Hawthorne scored eight in the quarter, including four from the free throw line. Lilly scored three key baskets to help take the lead and then splashed home a late free throw to help seal the deal.
With the win, Havre de Grace improved to 7-6 in the Chesapeake Division. Bel Air, after dropping an overtime game at North Harford earlier this week, suffered its second division loss and falls to 10-2 in division play.
