The Edgewood Rams scored 40 points in the second half and grabbed a come-from-behind win over the host C. Milton Wright Mustangs by a score of 64-59. The Rams found themselves down 22-9 after the first period and 35-24 at halftime, but Keyon Williams and Roderick Harrison stepped up in the second half to get the victory.
The Bays brothers, Connor and Corey, started the game off hot for the Mustangs. They combined for 18 of the 22 points for the Mustangs in the first quarter, including four three-pointers. Immanuel Gladden-Stokes led the Rams with four points in the frame.
Harrison stepped it up in the second quarter for the Rams, as he led the team with six points before halftime. The Rams used a break-neck pace and ferocious defense to create turnovers and closed the gap to just an 11 point deficit at the break.
Things started to go Edgewood’s way late in the third. Williams hit five of six free throws in the quarter, but the Rams forced a Mustangs turnover in the back court with 2.6 seconds left. The Rams in-bounded the ball, and Tyron McKissett threw up a deep three that banked in at the buzzer, giving the Rams the momentum, even though they trailed 49-42.
The fourth quarter saw the Rams take over. They scored 22 points in the final, decisive frame, including six free throws. The suffocating defense and fast-paced Rams attack earned the lead, 56-55, with 1:45 left. They made four free throws down the stretch after struggling from the line most of the game and won 64-59. After allowing 26 points between them, the Rams held the Bays brothers to just 12 combined points in the second half, a key factor in the win.
