Police Search for Edgewood Mother and Her 5-Year-Old Daughter; Left Home and Missing Since Jan. 10

Harford County Sheriff’s detectives are currently attempting to locate a mother and her 5 year-old daughter who left their home together on or about January 10, 2014 and their whereabouts are currently not known.

Detectives say Amanda Deeann Mitchell, 29, of the 2900 block of Siwanoy Drive in Edgewood, is one of the custodial parents of 5-year-old, Sanaa Elise Bailey. Mitchell has shared custody with the child’s father Aaron Chester Bailey of Baltimore. Detectives explained the father came to the Southern Precinct on January 18th after Ms. Mitchell failed to drop off the child for scheduled visitation with the father on January 17th and efforts to reach her were unsuccessful.

Family members tell police that although Amanda has been known to stay in homeless shelters from time to time her failure to allow visitation is atypical behavior. Police do not suspect foul play believing that for unknown reasons Amanda has chosen not to return home with the child.

Sheriff’s Detective Tom Walsh again reiterated they do not suspect foul play and the police simply want to make sure the child is safe. “She [Amanda] has left the family home with the bare essentials and has taken the child with her”, Walsh said. “We fully understand she is a custodial parent but her behavior is out of the norm for how people have described her. We have conducted an investigation and can find no reason why she would do this. We need to know that both she and the child are ok and are asking for the public’s help in trying to find her,” Walsh concluded.

Sanaa is described as a black female, 5 years old, 4’, 55lbs, thin build, black shoulder length braided hair pulled back in a ponytail and brown eyes.

Amanda Deeann Mitchell is a black female, 29, 5’05”, 135lbs with black hair and brown eyes. She is driving a burgundy 2005 Mitsubishi Gallant 4dr with unknown tags.
