Ismail Crosses 1,000 Career Points as Patterson Mill Huskies Cruise Past Aberdeen Eagles, 67-49

The Patterson Mill Huskies repaid the Aberdeen Eagles for a loss earlier in the season in a big way, romping to a 67-49 win. Qalea Ismail, a junior guard for the Huskies, entered the game with 972 career points. She scored 30 points, crossing the 1,000 point barrier in the fourth quarter.

The Huskies got off to a fast start, thanks in large part to Ismail who scored eight of her team’s 14 first quarter points. Aberdeen scored ten in the first frame, as Taylor Cole and Lisa Eller each had four points.

Things turned in the Huskies’ favor in the second. Aberdeen’s Stephanie Jones picked up her third foul with six minutes left in the quarter, and had to sit on the bench. Taking advantage of Jones’ absence was Ismail, who scored 12 points in the quarter, giving her 20 for the half and giving her team a 30-26 lead into halftime. Nazje Norton and Kierra Palmer each hit three pointers late in the quarter to keep Aberdeen within four.

The Huskies’ defense locked down the Eagles’ offense in the third quarter, as Patterson Mill swelled the lead to nine. Kayla Mitchell and Samantha Herman each hit threes in the quarter, and Stephanie Ehly added a bucket to help the Huskie cause. Aberdeen hit three field goals in the quarter, with Jones, Cole, and Katie Sanderson doing the honors for the Eagles.

The fourth quarter was all Patterson Mill as the Huskies scored a whopping 24 points in the final frame to run away from Aberdeen. Herman hit five of six free throws in the quarter and Ismail added seven, including the free throw that put her at 1,000 career points. For the Eagles, Jones fouled out with 3:58 to go, and they were not able to mount a charge to get back in the game.
