From Harford County Councilman “Capt’n” Jim McMahan:
Jan. 3
Information on the frigid temps over Harford Co.
Good Morning. Harford County activated the Emergency Operations Center to Level 1 this morning at 05:00 to monitor conditions throughout the county. It appears we received approximately 6 inches of snow in Bel Air and drifting is occurring because of the winds. The winds will intensify between 07:00 and 09:00 with sustained winds 20 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 to 45 mph. The drifting of the snow will continue to be a problem and the possibility of additional power outages during the day. At this time, there is only (1) road closure in the county on Rt. 161 and less than 15 reported power outages. Harford County Schools and Harford County Government will be closed.
YOU KNOW AFTER I SENT THIS I GOT TO THINKING WHAT AN INCORRECT STATEMENT IT IS TO SAY “HARFORD COUNTY GOVERNMENT CLOSED”
There are parts of almost every department on duty today in addition to all the employees necessary just to keep the wheels turning. I am in the Council Office for Pres Boniface representing the council members, answering e-mails and monitoring things from the council side. I live in Bel Air so obviously it is a no brainer for me to get to the office. Then you have all of the Emergency Operation Center, plus those folks who come to work to man the storm center from every branch of government. The dispatchers, EMT personnel, Vol Firefighters manning fire houses in some cases 24/7, DPW crews, DPW support folks, mechanic and supervisors, building maintenance personnel, water and sewer personnel, Community Services personnel organizing shelters in this sub zero temperature, Deputies and security and corrections people, cooks and bakers for the inmates,Harford Co Public School folks, clearing lots and sidewalks. Friends, Harford County Government is FAR from closed and I wish every one of the people working right now could get my personal “thank you” for the job they are doing. It you are in a position to pass along the gratitude from President Boniface and all the members of the County Council please do so. Their efforts during this and any storm do not go un-noticed.
