In a fast-paced game at Havre de Grace High School Thursday night, the Harford Tech Cobras defeated the host Warriors, 55-48. Darius Dangerfield led all scorers with 19 points, including ten from the free-throw line.
Havre de Grace trailed most of the first quarter, but a Tech turnover with five seconds left gave the Warriors a fast break that they converted into points, leading 10-9 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Cobras 2-3 zone defense stifled the Warriors’ offense, holding Havre de Grace to just four points, all scored by Zayron Blake. Tech got contributions from five different scorers to take a 25-14 lead at halftime.
Havre de Grace got off to a fast start in the third, thanks in large part to Blake. He totaled ten points in the quarter, and Sean Whittaker threw in five points to give the Warriors a 17 point quarter. Tech was held to 11 points in the frame, but led 36-31 through three.
In the fourth, Havre de Grace’s Jordan Hawthorne heated up. Hawthorne, along with Whittaker, scored seven points in the quarter, but the Warriors were unable to tie the game. The Cobras hit 13 free throws in the final quarter to hang on for the victory.
Harford Tech heads into the Christmas break tied for first place in the Susquehanna Division (2-0) with the Bel Air Bobcats, who defeated Perryville, 70-55. Havre de Grace falls to 1-1 in the division.
