Booga picka, and Eata says
I didn’t count, but it looks like It’s almost a 50/50 split between private business, and public schools with this round of reported “violations”
mean streets says
I counted 51 entities and 11 were public schools or govt related! Where is the 50/50 split. A lot harder to have a fully run cafeteria fully compliant on temps than a 7/11 but I guess you Tea Baggers can still claim that it is all about the same!! bunch of losers!!! You are entitled to your opinion but the facts do not resemble your statement..
WTF says
What the fvck is political about health inspection food inspections?
Duh says
He is obviously not taxed enough. More than likely pays no taxes. He is the type that gets fat gorging on the tit of the taxpayer.
betsy maines says
I think its pretty sad that all those schools were cited. And the Highs and 7 elevens, there is not that much that needs to be kept up with. And the restaurants. What r the cooks doing? Evidently not their jobs.
KC says
Your headline reads “Violations” but you posted picture caption says NOTICE…CLOSED…by order of the Commissioner of the Health and Mental Hygiene. Misleading.
Kharn says
They’ve used the same image for months.
boblynch says
Your image you are using about CLOSING vs Violations is a little mis leading
Judy Terrill says
How in the world can so many businesses and schools not know how to have proper temperatures when heating and cooling and storing food. Maybe our county needs to educate everyone and not just issue violations. If all of these facilities are wrong I am sure there are more…
ashley says
Where can you find this list for Cecil County?
ALEX R says
Where are the parents of children who attend these schools? Why aren’t the flooding the BOE meeting demanding this stop? What is happening in HCPS to the people who are in charge of these schools? Where’s Burbey? Isn’t he always for the children? I guess maybe only when there is money in it for HCEA.
Joe E Blow says
Posting these every time they’re made public is a bit silly. These are really not at all indicative of what happens in a kitchen. Health inspectors are there for 1 day out of who knows how many, and they only check a small hand full of things. For example, I was working a booth at the farm fair a few years ago at a concessions stand and while setting up in the morning, the health inspector stopped by. They checked this and that but failed to see the bucket of moldy onions sitting on a table that were later cut up to be used as hot dog condiments. If you give a damn about the quality of food you eat, don’t trust people being paid minimum wage or a slim margin more to source, handle and prepare it. Apathy rules the day.
The real Concern Citizen says
Where are the parents of children who attend these schools and see their unruly and disrespectful kids act out what they learn at home.
overly protective concerned parent says
Not all children in HCPS r “unruly and disrespectful” that’s a really bad generalization and it’s absolutely not true. Also what does ur comment have to do with the topic at hand? I am a proud parent of an AMS student who is nowhere close to how u generalized the students, not one student in her classes r anything like u described. Sorry and I mean no disrespect, I just needed to comment on ur unbelievable comment

One day I went to get a sub from a well-known and visited place that makes subs and sells other items like coffee and gas. When I opened my sub, out crawled a roach. Needless to say, I didn’t have much of an appetite after that and have never gone back to that particular establishment for a sub. That’s the kind of stuff I am surprised the inspectors didn’t find — mouse droppings, insect parts, etc. Although, at just the right temperature, microbes grow very well so the temperature citations can be pretty serious.
Funney says
Pretty hilarious to see all those schools on the list.
Where is the politically correct, nanny like busy body outrage for little johnny biting into a cold tater tot?
What if he gets sick, throws up on the cafeteria floor, and gets bullied?
CC says
In these people’s defense though, the Harford Co. health inspector I witnessed on one occasion was a nightmare. Of course when you leave a hot box or a fridge open for 10 minutes like the inspector did and then take its temperature, you won’t get a good reading. Most of these complaints are fussing about temperature… from HarCo, I’m not buying it, after I’ve seen them in action.
Liberal Brian says
We must work together to release new standards of food temperature. This is unacceptable that so many of the children can be exposed to food violations, if we redo the standards, then there won’t be violations.
The Money Tree says
Indeed it’s time to demand a new position at HCPS. We need; no we demand a temperature czar. The sole purpose of the temp czar will be to interrupt entire kitchens and shove a thermometer into every plate of food he/she sees…even those from home are suspect and should if found out of temperture compliance be immediately seized from the children…make them spit out anything they might still be chewing because you just never know. That tuna can be a nightmare in the wrong hands.
Liberal Brian says
It’s for the greater good, but your idea is certainly to far extreme right now. In my opinion, start small, let’s change acceptable numbers to a wider range to stay in compliance.
If current noncompliance is say, 2 degrees off text book, let’s make the new tolerance 10 degrees.
Keesha Jackson says
Look, parents, the health department has issued citations to a bunch of schools where your kids eat lunch. If you don’t care about health issues involving your kids then why should I? I don’t eat there or at any of the other places that are in violation. The funny thing is if a teacher refuses to extend a home work due date because little Johnny was on vacation the parents throw a tantrum but if the school cafeteria fails a health department inspection who cares?
