The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire which severely damaged a pickup truck in Jarrettsville early Wednesday morning.
According to fire officials, the blaze was spotted just after 4 a.m. Wednesday by a passerby in the 2300 block of Northcliff Drive in Jarrettsville. The fire began on the exterior of a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck, and was brought under control in 30 minutes by 10 members of the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $30,000, according to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies also responded to the scene; the Sheriff’s Office is investigating several other vehicle break-ins in the area which are believed to be related.

30 Minutes? Wow, 15 minutes could have saved them 15% on their car insurance….Call GEICO……God Bless our Volunteers though…..where would we be without them……

Thank you Aaron Cahall for reporting this incident! I live in this neighborhood and witnessed this event. We have been unable to get any type of information about the fire and even though it is scary now knowing the fire was set intentionally and could be related to a string of break-ins, it’s nice to know something about what happened!

I live directly across street from that event..one of the first to look out front door, shocking to see in our quiet neighborhood.. Hope to hear the rest of the story.thanks Aaron.

Hey Incredible and Yup,
FYI, that was humour…….a play on the commercials……
I have been a volunteer fireman for 37 years, yes a life member. Re read the last sentence and you will see the praise I have for my fellow volunteers.
Who’s the idiot now?
Who’s the epitome of asshole, now ?
I hope and pray the SFMO or HCSO catch this jerk and they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law…..
Have a fine day you two……
I feel sorry for your tudes as well….

Maybe the owner was behind on payments and decided to have it torched and have the insurance co. solve the problem. You can bet that will be looked at.
Respectful Neighbor says
Really Hedley? All it takes is comments like yours to make one question free speech.
You obviously do not know the people or community involved; or you would not have slandered their good name and reputation. People like you would next suggest that perhaps they ran around the neighborhood breaking into other cars, imitating a multitude of similar crimes (car break-ins) in Harford County in recent months, all to cover their tracks. Might I also point out that the residents of our community were not even aware Harford County had been seeing an increasing rate of these types of incidents in recent months.
It is very disrespectful of you to suggest the victims were actually the criminals. I guess the walls of your glass house shine extra bright during this holiday season.

It took 10 members of the fire dept 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, what were they doing, spitting on the fire.
Aaron Cahall says
Some additional information from Harford County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Edward Hopkins, after I asked earlier this week:
Contrary to what the Office of the State Fire Marshal stated in their report, and we relayed above, Hopkins said no link has been confirmed between this fire and the nearby vehicle break-ins. There were several thefts from vehicles in the area that night, Hopkins said, and the confusion may have arisen when deputies responding to the fire told the State Fire Marshal’s investigator of the activity.
Hopkins said the theft cases have been suspended pending any additional leads; however, he said deputies with the Northern Precinct have been “hitting the area hard with directed patrols and running down leads and information but they have no leads or suspects. “
