From the Harford County Public Library:
The Annual Meeting of the Committee for Really Excellent Adventures & Deeds (READ) convenes at the Aberdeen Library!
Better known as the mini Comic-Con, join your alter ego and other fantasists, gamers, comic book lovers, super heroes, and horror fans for two days of Dr. Who and Zombies.
Warren Capps of Breakaway Games is returning to the Library on Thursday, October 17 from 4 to 8pm to kick-off this year’s mini Comic-Con with a session on Inside the Video Game Industry, a discussion and hands-on approach to learning about the ins and outs of the gaming business. Also available that afternoon and evening are How to Create a Zombie, with make-up artist Sherry Billings; Yu-Gi-Oh and other card game swaps and primers; photo backdrops, including a Dr. Who Tardis; plus cosplayers (costumed players) and fantasy crafting.
On Friday, October 18 from 1 to 8pm, the taste becomes a meal with workshops featuring FutureMakers making Dr. Who Daleks; Wilmington University’s staff on creating apps and playing Minecraft; illustrator and writer Steve Ogden teaching all about character drawing; Board and Card Games with Whitman Bottiger; a mini-weapons of mass destruction tutorial; and a game cube tourney.
All of this culminates in a visit by Zombie Master Jonathan Maberry, author of the Rot and Ruin and Joe Ledger series of books! You will be able to pick Jon’s brain, so to speak, starting at 6:30pm. He will answer questions, sign books, and create general mayhem until 8pm. Reservations are suggested for this portion of the festivities. His books will be available for purchase at the event.
The mini Comic-Con is recommended for ages 12-18. Jonathan Maberry is best for middle school to adult audiences. All limited participation workshops are first come first served. Board and card games, crafting, photo backdrops, and cosplayers are ongoing and open to all.
