“One Maryland, One Book” Author King Peggy Captivates Harford Audience

Harford County Public Library was once again pleased to participate in the One Maryland One Book program and partner with the Maryland Humanities Council and other organizations to bring King Peggy, author of King Peggy: An American Secretary, Her Royal Destiny, and the Inspiring Story of How She Changed an African Village to the community on September 18.

More than 200 people of all ages gathered in the beautiful Chesapeake Theater on the Harford Community College campus to greet “Nana,” as she is affectionately known, and hear first-hand how this naturalized American has worked to bring improvements to her homeland village of Otuam, Ghana. “She is an inspiration to everyone, but especially to women,” said Iris Barnes, Director of the Hosanna School Museum. “She not only is succeeding in a man’s world, but with a male honorific as well!”

In addition to working with the Humanities Council on the One Maryland One Book program, the Library had the pleasure of collaborating with the Harford Community College Library and Chesapeake Theatre, the Harford County Department of Community Services, and the Hosanna School Museum, putting King Peggy on everyone’s reading list! More than a dozen discussions of the book have been conducted and continue to be held at county activity centers, Harford Community College, and Library branches. These discussions honor Nana’s vision by helping to build tolerance and understanding of others and making us all more aware of our world.
