Harford County Sheriff’s Office Checks 387 Vehicles, Makes Multiple Arrests During Labor Day Weekend Sobriety Checkpoint

During the late night hours of Saturday into Sunday morning of the Labor Day weekend, Harford County deputies conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Rt. 152 in Joppa, near the intersection of Stockton Road.

In conjunction to the checkpoint, patrol saturation of the surrounding areas was conducted by Baltimore County Police Department, Maryland State Police – JFK Barrack, and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. The Checkpoint was also attended by the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) as well as supported by, the State Highway Administration, and Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.

At the checkpoint, 387 vehicles drove through, with nine being pulled off the line, resulting in the DUI arrests of Sarah J. Baker, age 24, of Joppa, MD and Patrick H. Grant, age 38, of Fallston, MD. Also, at the checkpoint deputies arrested Quynton M. Werdebach, age 18, from Carlisle, PA for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. During the same time, patrol deputies also arrested Debra T. Bartles, age 55 of Fallston, MD for suspected DUI. Additional multi-jurisdiction patrol saturation resulted in 5 DUI arrests, 28 citations, and 2 equipment repair orders.

For this checkpoint, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in this year’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
