Harford County Residents Urged to Take Part in “Day to Serve”

(Bel Air, MD) – – Harford County residents are taking part in ‘Day to Serve.’ The event runs from September 15 through 29. The event encourages support in community service projects to help clean up the environment and fight hunger.

Maryland joined Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC to support ‘Day to Serve.’ It’s a unique event that inspires citizens to volunteer and strengthen communities.

Last year, ‘Day to Serve’ resulted in nearly 750 community events with 14,000 volunteers providing 26,000 hours of service. More than 200 events focused on feeding the hungry with 600,000 pounds of food donated to local food banks and pantries. Volunteers participated in more than 350 environmental projects such as tree plantings and park improvements.

Harford County has four events scheduled so far. These events include: Fresh Start on September 23 from 9am to 7pm where volunteers will collect items for homeless women and children at 605 North Tollgate Road in Bel Air. Plumtree Stream Clean Up will be held on September 21 from 9am to noon at Plumtree Park in Bel Air.

Volunteers can also head to Susquehanna State Park’s Deer Creek Picnic Area for trail maintenance and litter pick-up from noon to 3pm on Saturday, September 28. Maryland State Police will collect food donations September 1 through 30 at each of the State Police Barracks. The collected food items will be donated to the Maryland Food Bank.
