Two middle school children walking home in a neighborhood off Route 543 in Fountain Green reported an encounter with a suspicious driver Wednesday, police said, but varied on details of the incident.
Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 1200 block of Gyros Court in Fountain Green shortly after 3:15 p.m. Wednesday after a boy and girl, both 11, walking home from school reported contact with the driver of a passing vehicle. The girl told deputies that, while walking home on Econ Drive in the area of Delphi Court, a turquoise SUV driven by a woman in her 50s with red hair stopped and attempted to talk to them, asking if they wanted candy. However, the boy told deputies that a gray Nisson operated by a woman in her 40s with blonde hair pulled over to talk to a different student about 50 feet behind the pair.
Deputies could not prove that either driver had intent to harm the children, and the exact nature of the incident is unclear. However, additional Sheriff’s Office patrols will be conducted in the area and the school resource officer responsible for the area has been notified, according to agency spokesman Edward Hopkins.
