From Harford County government:
The Office of Harford County Executive David R. Craig has today announced that Sherrie Johnson has been hired to fill the vacant position of Public Information Officer for Harford County Government.
In her role as Public Information Officer, Ms. Johnson will serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and will become the main spokesperson for Harford County Government. She will work with the County Executive’s Office’s Governmental & Community Relations team to enhance the county’s outreach efforts to citizens, through both traditional media outlets and through the use of social media. Her first day with Harford County Government will be July 22.
Ms. Johnson is an Emmy Award-winning journalist who has worked in five different television markets with local and national affiliates over the last 19 years. Most recently, she has been an on-air reporter during the early morning weekday hours on ABC2 News in Baltimore, where she has covered topics as varied as education, crime, and government. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts in journalism and mass communications and a minor in German.
Ms. Johnson serves as a member of the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter, the National Association of Black Journalists, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She also volunteers with Project Literacy and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
“Sherrie Johnson’s experience in television news and information gathering will be an asset to county government in our ongoing effort to communicate effectively with the public,” said County Executive Craig. “She will be a great addition to our team.”
“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the media to provide timely and accurate information regarding county government,” Ms. Johnson stated. “From my past experience on the journalism side, I know that Harford County is an exciting place to work, and that Harford County Government has been a leader in the state when it comes to pioneering innovative new programs and in promoting transparency and efficiency. I can’t wait to get started and to be a part of this team.”

I can’t wait til Glassman clears out all of Craig cronies from the friends and family network. Now I hear he is bringing back Roxanne Lynch to a plumb job before he leaves. Ms. Johnson was brought on to use as support for his ill fated Gov race.
Rumor Has It says
Do you actually think Glassman’s cronies won’t be as bad or worse?
He is run by Bob Hockaday, so I’m sure John Sullivan will get a promotion. Can anybody actually identify what he does now? Sullivan is a fool.
How many Council members vacate seats to take an appointment under Glassman?
Which volunteer fireman replaces Russ Strickland? Gene Worthington or Bill Dousa?
Rocky Gonzalez has been gloating about his connection. Does he go to the cabinet?
It will just be a new batch of cronies. Glassman is just as tied to the Hockaday good old boy network – if not worse than Craig was.

As a great songwriter once said, “Meet the new boss . . . same as the old boss . . . “

I’m sure she was hired because she was the most qualified…and for no other reason (said with sarcasm).

Affirmative action?
Mr. Moderate says
This announcement has nothing to do with Barry Glassman–and everything to do with Ms. Johnson.
Didn’t anyone read about her background. Coming from an academic background, I’ve always regarded a degree from UNC-Chapel Hill as a more than significant accomplishment. Her degree is in journalism, plus she has real world experience in dealing with both the media and the public. Put your knee-jerk prejudices and biases aside. What’s wrong with being fair?
Just Sayin says
Sorry, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. And that’s the way it works.
Pimple says
I’m guessing that she donated to the Craig campaign or someone in her family did.
TR says
I’m guessing that you applied for the job, didn’t get it due to your inferior qualifications, and need to make assumptions about the successful applicant for the sake of your own self esteem.
