From the office of Harford County State’s Attorney Joseph Cassilly:
Todd E. Johnson, age 30, plead guilty today to Bribery for accepting payments to provide unauthorized access to police databases to Michael Griffin of Final Notice Repossession Company. The plea was accepted by Judge Lawrence Lanahan in the District Court. As part of his plea Johnson resigned from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
Harford County State’s Attorney Joseph Cassilly stated that based on Johnson’s good record and his cooperation with investigators that the State was not seeking incarceration. Johnson was sentenced to 5 years in the Division of Correction and a $1,000 fine all of which was suspended and he was placed on 36 months of supervised probation.
INDEPENDENT says
Good deal! Let’s see what the next Deputy’s deal is…
Mike Welsh says
Sentenced to 5 years DOC and a $1000 fine, all of which was suspended. Does that mean he was permitted to keep the proceeds he collected from his crime?
Fact Finder says
Since he resigned does that mean that he can still keep his police cerftification? He should have served jail time. He a cop and you would hope he had a good record, plus they had him dead to rights so he knew he needed to cooperate. But they will stick it to another cop that was dragged by a car. Its a shame
really says
He got the same deal that every other criminal gets for the first time in. Nothing more nothing less. Go sit at court and its the same deal in good ol Maryland, first time in for almost any crime is a pbj all day long.
Marc Eaton says
He is a disgrace. He was a cop who knew better and broke the law. He should have done time for this. I see it is still lets make a deal in the Harford County Court system.
Buford T Justice says
Marc tell us how Jesse is a co-conspirator in all of this. Take your time in cooking up a imaginative story. Maybe you and the Bane Bashers can put your heads together to come up with something extremely interesting.
Marc Eaton says
Nope, Johnson is responsible for what he did and he should pay for it. He took an oath to uphold the law. He should be held accountable for this. Sorry to disappoint you.
Marc Eaton says
You are the one bringing up Bane, no one else even mentioned him.
Marcs Baby mommas sisters cousin from his uncles inlaws nephew says
Here we go again blame Marc Eaton. Come on Buford T Justice. Marc is just stating the facts not all deputies commit crimes in fact 99% of them are good people. Its the select few that make the rest look like an ass. He is also right in saying who did bring up Bane, you did Buford T Justice. Good try though
Ralph says
May I just say that there is nothing “select” about Mr. Johnson, and Johnson only made himself look like an ass and no one else.
j edgar says
Buford, good post.
Uncle Eddie says
He is not the typical Section 8 unemployed small-time thug. Anyone in office or law enforcement should be held to a higher standard. The big problem is the revolving-door system that the courts have. Even repeat offenders keep getting break after break and continue to commit crimes. If they were given the mandated sentences instead of these watered-down plea deals, then they would be off of the streets longer with less opportunity to commit their crimes. And take away the cable TV and college education while there, and make prison a place where they do not want to return.
But remember the motto of the State’s Attorney’s Office – “They’ll reoffend”.
tsa says
where is jim in hickory when we need someone to bring down the system?
Jim in Hickory says
Here I am! The asshole has arrived!
Stanley says
Havre de Grace Police Department will hire him. They love crime commiting police officers.
Kharn says
Baltimore PD is sure to offer him sergeant’s stripes.
Uncle Eddie says
Maybe Jesse wan’t getting his cut……
puckerup says
Haha! What a loser. I’m sure there is a mass “unfriending” of this ass on Facebook.
County Employee With a Badge says
I approve of this verdict. It’s not like he hurt anyone.
Mike Welsh says
In an earlier article Sheriff Bane stated there are 421 sworn Deputies in the Harford County Sheriff’s Office. I believe he hurt 420 of them.
County Employee With a Badge says
How did he hurt them? He just provided information on dirtbag delinquent car owners that would eventually be caught anyway. The people he provided information on also likely didn’t have insurance on their vehicles either, would you have been happy if they would have killed or maimed a family member being left on the road?
Mike Welsh says
Anytime a person who is “sworn” to uphold the law and vested with the trust of the public to do so, participates in criminal activity it hurts each and everyone of his/her contemporaries. It hurts because it detracts from the good that all of those people do each and every day. If you don’t understand that, then, in my opinion you don’t deserve to have whatever badge you claim to have.
County Employee With a Badge says
There you go judging people. As far as I’m concerned the only law he broke was providing a little bit of privileged info on people who were already breaking the law. People are arrested and taken to court everyday from privileged information obtained from the public. What is the difference?
Uncle Eddie says
The difference is that he was personally profiting from it. It is called a bribe. But I shouldn’t expect anyone with a badge to know the law.
hmmmmmmnnnnnn says
does a fireman’s badge count? I was at sonic the other day and was going to ask for my fireman’s discount, but decided to get my soup and move down the line. NO DISCOUNT FOR YOU! I
