From the New Harford Democratic Club:
Meeting Reminder
Wednesday May 01, 2013 – 7:00pm
Aberdeen Holiday Inn, 1007 Beards Hill Rd
At the May 1st meeting of the NHDC, our program will feature Ryan Burbey, President of the Harford County Education Association (HCEA), as our guest speaker. He will speak to the current priorities of the teachers’ union and how their future is affected by State and local financing and policy changes.
HCPS Non-member says
This is a wonderful example of why nearly 40% of HCPS employees don’t join HCEA. Everyone is entitled to argue their views but don’t try and tell us the union is not part of the broader Democratic party/Liberal machine. Saying the NEA is non-partisan is the same as saying the NRA is non-partisan. Both are true in a technical sense but everyone knows who and what policies they support 99.99% of the time. Get the politics out of the HCEA and keep its focus local, no influence from or money to the NEA or MSEA and I’ll join. Until then forget it.
Monster says
HCPS Non-member, you said it very well.
Ryan Burbey says
I have told multiple Republican leaders that I would very much like to come to speak at their meetings too. I just happens that the New Harford Democratic Club was the first to schedule me to speak. HCEA is seeking to improve education in Harford County we will partner and support anyone who shares our goals regardless of party affiliation. If there are leaders of political clubs or community organizations reading this, I am interested in speaking with you and working together to improve our schools.
ALEX R says
As Mr. Orwell wrote in Animal Farm “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.”
There will be a meeting of the ‘more equals’ May 1st at 7pm. Napoleon will be speaking.
Jaguar Judy says
Oh my, Alex, you are casting your pearls before swine. Will Wendy Rosen be attending? I think you suggested before that she could Skype in from her prison cell.
Just Wrong says
Give Mr. Burbey a chance, I’m sure he’s an honorable Union president who is fully aware that he must also attend the Republican Committee meeting as well. Dagger, please post an article when Mr. Burbey attends that meeting.
ALEX R says
Yes, that article will share the top spot with “Hell Freezes Over”.
Ryan Burbey says
I have offered to speak at Republican Club meetings and would relish the opportunity. I am interested in improving our schools and education system. I will work with anyone who shares our goals. HCEA is a non-partisan organization. We have members of both parties and multiple members of our Board of Directors who are Republicans.
politics ahead of education says
Politics before education, just what the union is all about.
ALEX R says
Actually they are all about dues first, then politics then, if there is any time left over, taking care of folks like John Hickey and Susan Darden. But unfortunately there is never any time left.
