From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
Only two days after intense media saturation of the surveillance video and photos circulated by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Jason William Foland, 24, with an address in the 600 block of Long Bar Harbor Drive in Abingdon, MD, was arrested and charged in connection with the armed robbery of the Abingdon 7-11 on April 6, 2013.
As the investigation intensified, multiple media outlets, including Facebook, were posting photos of the suspect in an attempt to close the case. The Sheriff’s Office Facebook page alone had more than 3,000 views of the surveillance video. As a result, on Thursday, April 11, 2013, shortly after 9:00 pm, Mr. Foland turned himself in, without incident, to detectives at the Southern Precinct. He has been charged with Armed Robbery, Theft Less than $100, and Second Degree Assault. Mr. Foland is currently being held on bail of $30,000 at the Harford County Detention Center.
The robbery occurred on Saturday, April 06, 2013, at approximately 5:25 am at the 7-11 on the corner of Rt.7 and Abingdon Road, in Abingdon, MD. The suspect approached the cashier with a knife and demanded money and cigarettes. After receiving both, he fled on foot towards Rt.7. No injuries were reported.

$30,000 bail for an armed robbery. Yet another abomination of justice!

The amount this punk stole is irrelevant. His crime was committed with a gun – most likely in his possession illegally – and he’s out. Anyone see the problem here? I realize the courts cannot apply excessive bail, but they are not even close to using common sense with these guys. I’m sorry – you go into a store and start flapping a gun in someone’s face, you are a significant danger to society. Similar to the logic to keep criminals that are deemed a flight risk in prison, how about using the same logic to keep the ones locked up that pose a high risk to the rest of us due to their proven behavior? So long as these guys are still milling around, I’d suggest an upgrade in the surveillance cameras at all of the local convenience stores!
