From Harford County Public Schools:
The Board of Education of Harford County met for an open business meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013, in the Board Room of the HCPS/A.A. Roberty Building and took the following actions and received the following presentations:
Received a presentation by the Greater Excellence in Education Foundation (GEEF) by Kevin Wiley, chair of GEEF, and Warren Hamilton, GEEF executive board member
Approved the Consent Agenda:
– Affirmation of Monthly Contracts
– Minutes of Previous Board Meeting: February 25, 2013
– Appointment of 2014-15 Calendar Committee and Committee Members
– Award of Contract: 2013 Aging Schools Program Storm Drain Replacement at Southampton Middle School
– Award of Contract: 2013 Aging Schools Program Resurfacing Project at Roye-Williams Elementary School
Approved the Premium Holiday, Healthcare, Dental Care and OPEB Transfer; Approved Supplementation Appropriation
Approved the FY2014 Amended Budget
Received a presentation on Common Core Standards, Part II, by Dr. Susan P. Brown, coordinator of intervention; Jacqueline Tarbert, coordinator of leadership and professional development; Sara Morris, supervisor of mathematics; Kris Scarry, supervisor of English, reading and related language arts; and Marlene Molter, principal of C. Milton Wright High School
During the Superintendent’s Report:
– Congratulated the 35 teams from HCPS that are moving on to the state tournament for the Destination Imagination program. Highlighted the energy, creativity and the ingenuity that the students showcased during their prepared projects and instant challenges. Dr. Tomback also recognized the terrific cooperation between the school leaders and community members to organize this all-day event that attracted upwards of 1,500 adults. He thanked the building maintenance crews, food service personnel, faculty and staff from Edgewood High School and other schools who offered assistance in organizing the event. The level of cooperation and degree of commitment was evident.
– Seventh STEM Forum sponsored by the North Eastern Maryland Technology Council was hosted by and held at Aberdeen High School. The meeting gathered leaders in the STEM community and gave them the opportunity to go into classrooms to understand more fully what
our high school students are doing. They were able to witness the level of rigor and dedication our students and teachers demonstrate and understand the necessity of the mentorships and collaboration with private industry we provide to our students.
