UPDATE: McComas Withdraws Speed Camera Bill
From Del. Susan McComas:
Annapolis – Delegate Susan K. McComas (R-35B) today withdrew House Bill 1103 – Speed Monitoring and Work Zone Speed Control Systems – Expansion and Modifications.
“The original intent of this bill was to increase citizen protections by requiring calibrations be performed by an independent laboratory”, said McComas. “However, after hearing from a number of citizens, I’ve determined the legislation as drafted has provisions that do not reflect my original intent. I felt the best option was to withdraw the bill.”
From Ted Patterson, Maryland State Coordinator for Campaign for Liberty:
Delegate Susan McComas (R-District 35B) has lost her mind.
She filed, as the primary sponsor, House Bill 1103, a speed camera expansion bill that features as its center piece…an increase of speed camera fines to $80! Does Delegate McComas live under a rock?
Speed cameras are malfunctioning in Maryland. The Baltimore Sun is covering case after case where motorists are being fined when they were clearly not speeding. Its gotten so bad in Baltimore City that they are replacing their whole speed camera system. Instead of repealing speed cameras in Maryland, Delegate Susan McComas is implementing the liberal agenda in Annapolis by expanding them.
Apparently the fact that families are struggling in this economy doesn’t matter to Delegate McComas. You see, we live to provide revenue to the government in her mind, so why shouldn’t we pay higher fines for tickets? Delegate McComas, like Martin O’Malley, wants to expand the money going into her pocket. Speed cameras bring in millions upon millions of dollars in new tax revenue into state government every year and politicians just can’t get enough!
I need you to call Delegate Susan McComas today to tell her to hold onto her sanity and pull this bill. Call her at: 410-841-3272
Send her an email too at: susan.mccomas@house.state.md.us
Maryland Campaign for Liberty needs your grassroots pressure to prevent this pro-speed camera legislator from getting her bill passed. If you want to get rid of Big Brother’s speed cameras, it is absolutely vital you call Delegate Susan McComas today. You and I must stand together against the fleecing of our communities by private companies working hand-in-glove with corrupt politicians in Annapolis.
Time is running out on our opportunity to stop Delegate McComas’s wild idea to expand Big Brother in Maryland, so please take action today!
For Liberty,
Theodore Patterson

No surprise. This is the same Susan McComas I witnessed at a low cost spay and neuter clinic, a few years ago, meant for low income citizens. Tight with her own money, greedy with yours. When someone pointed out who she was and I confirmed it, it really angered me. Surely she can afford to pay full cost at a vets office and leave spaces at a low income clinic open for those who are honestly in need of such services. Shameful! Doesn’t she read the papers or listen to the news? It’s been all over the media that the existing speed cameras are malfunctioning, yet she proposes to double the fines? She needs a psych eval and a retirement party.
W.T.F.? says
Ahhh Teddy Patterson, while I personally HATE speed cameras (and red light cameras for that matter), the fact is, they are not part of a “liberal agenda”, they ARE part of the “law enforcement agenda”. And your argument against them is “the economy”? That’s idiotic. Like “midnight shift” says, you CFL tea-baggers are an extreme, yet vociferous energetic minority of folks that MUST have everything your way, or it’s the highway. This is one of the biggest problems with the current Republican party. Hell, the good lord and savior Ronald Wilson Reagan wouldn’t survive a modern day Republican primary! (this is true 🙂 )
give it a rest says
It would seem to me that by attending the clinic Ms. McComas was being frugal with her personal finances, a position that CFL should appreciate. After all isn’t fiscal conservatism the very basis of why CFL exists? What I really would have expected from you is a complaint that the low income clinic existed at all.
Not Surprised At All says
I am no part of the CAL, I am just a concerned citizen who reads the Dagger and was once again given to shaking my head in disbelief at this womans gall. As someone with no affiliation to any party, who struggles to make ends meet I do not find her use of a program meant for disadvantaged commendable in the least. I find it appalling. Do not assume that everyone who posts here has some sort of political agenda. Some of us are simple citizens who are just living paycheck to paycheck and are bored and tired of all the squabbling and no real action on the parts of both parties. Incomes are not verified to take advantage of this low income serving service, if it were she would not have qualified. She’s a free loader… that’s my take on her.
Because says
You raise a point without intending to. Why aren’t spay and neuter services all low cost if unwanted animal reproduction is a problem, as I’m sure the object of such programs suggests? Why should someone have to take their pet to be spayed or neutered to a higher priced animal clinic just because their income falls above the threshold of your tolerance? It’s amusing that some of the same people that want to take advantage of low cost “rationed” health care for their animals will deny it to human beings.

Set aside the speed camera issue for a moment and look at what is really happening here. This is the first salvo from the CFL folks leading up to the next election. Del. McComas just happens to be the first to be openly targeted by the CFL but you can expect more of the same against most current Republican officeholders in Harford County. The CFL believe that the current crop of Republicans on the County Council are not conservative enough for their liking. The same holds true for most of the delegation to Annapolis. Some may claim that CFL has publicly challenged the policies of the County Executive but that was different. In their larger view Mr. Craig no longer matters as he is term limited, unlikely to win election to any other office, and will lose almost any influence he has in county politics after next year. Their new strategy is to run candidates in almost all the county political races in 2014 in an attempt to unseat incumbents and contest all open seats. Their area of greatest influence is in the northern part of the county (Chad Shrodes should be especially nervous) but their influence remains relatively insignificant throughout the rest of the county. Mr. McGrady’s successive election defeats in the southern end of the county and the failure of Sen. Jacobs to carry Harford County in the last election are examples. The recent purging of Mr. McGrady and Mr. DeLong’s from leadership positions in the Harford County Republican Central Committee is also a demonstration of the isolation of CFL in Republican circles. While the number of Republican voters is on the rise in Harford County most will not support the particular brand of conservatism CFL espouses.
Crash and Burn says
Anything associated with McGrady and DeLong will fail. If the CFL wants to be taken seriously, they need to find some leaders and new faces for their organization that are respected and not the butt of jokes from both the Republicans and the Democrats.
Liberty Lover says
Boy Aaron, is that you?! We’ve missed you!
midnight shift says
No, just a private citizen.
Keesha Jackson says
WTF,
I guess we certainly agree on the speed camera issue. And the red light camera issue. In my view it is a government grab for more money and frankly they have gotten caught with their pants down because the things don’t work and the contractors take most of the money which wasn’t a big surprise to a lot of us. What really rips my butt is that Susan McComas says she is a Republican? As someone who doesn’t often vote for a Democrat I can say that if she were on the ballot presented to me then just about any challenger would get my vote. She does indded have to go. That’s the crux of the issue here. Let’s not get sidetracked with CFL and tea bag and all of that stuff.
W.T.F.? says
Ok Keesha Darling. I’ll try my best to be nice, it’s just that I like tea sooooooooo much! 🙂
midnight shift says
So all Republicans must think and act alike? If I read correctly I get the impression that you don’t live in her district. Apparently the majority of voters in her district like the way she thinks on most issues and it is their votes that really matter.
Wayne Norman says
I am fairly certain Delegate McComas withdrew that bill, HB 1103.
Not Surprised At All says
Does the fact that she withdrew the bill make it any less outrageous that she sponsored it in the first place? To me, the fact that she would sponsor such a bill, given the recent issues with the cameras as well as with the state of the economy, tells me she is not in touch with reality or the voice of those she serves.

Cut to the chase ! Susan McComas was a liberal (still is) Democratic lawyer from Wyoming who moved to Harford County married to a gentleman with the last name of McComas (NO relation to the long time and respected McComas family of Harford County) How a Republican delegate can submit such a radical piece of liberal legislation (with NO co-sponsors) is unbelieveable !!! This makes the ferrett fiasco of a previous election cycle look like nothing. In politics name recognition is a huge advantage Susan has proven that! Susan among many other things has elevated herself to the position of the poster child for the acronim RINO. While the Harford County switch-o-crats, and there are many, have typically shed their liberal views (woke up ) Susan has just proven that she is not one of them and has not abandon her liberalism and love of big government. Hopefully in 2014 the Republican party can field a candidate that can put conservative principals back into Annapolis to represent the citizens of Harford County as they deserve to be represented.
