The Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation has announced the release of the draft 2013 Land Preservation, Parks, and Recreation Plan. The Plan is an element of the overall County Master Plan which refines and implements the goals of the Master Plan and Land Use Element Plan. This update process is required by the State of Maryland for continued participation in Program Open Space, a major funding source for parkland acquisition and development.
To help gather information from the community the Department of Parks and Recreation has posted the draft document in electronic format on the county’s website. The document is available for download and viewing at www.harfordcountymd.gov/parks_rec and click on the draft LPPRP icon. Citizens who would like to comment on the contents of the plan may do so at pr@harfordcountymd.gov. The public comment period for the draft LPPRP is open through February 27, 2013.
For those citizens who prefer direct dialogue and input, the Department of Parks and Recreation will host a public meeting on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the McFaul Activity Center located at 525 W. MacPhail Road in Bel Air. The public input session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and should conclude not later than 8:30 p.m.
The 2013 Land Preservation, Parks, and Recreation Plan set forth several major goals for the Department. These goals include acquiring land and developing facilities (including trails) to meet the recreation needs of current and future residents; ensuring the availability of program opportunities; addressing citizens/participants safety; incorporating appropriate environmental stewardship in Department activities and projects; and marketing facilities and programs in cooperation with other public and private sector partners.
