Edgewood High School Trombonist Promotes Purple Pride as a Marching Raven
Jacob Weinstein, a junior in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at Edgewood High School (EHS), has been a part of the Marching Ravens this season. Jacob received a flyer last spring about auditions, and he gave it a shot. He is exhausted the morning after those evening home games, but he still comes to school and works hard.
During the fall season, Jacob not only managed his Raven’s Band schedule, he was also a member of the EHS Marching Band and on the Varsity Soccer Team. He is a scholar athlete and maintains honor role, even with his hectic schedule and being an IB student.
Baltimore’s Marching Ravens is an all-volunteer organization committed to bringing quality musical entertainment and a “traditional football atmosphere” to all Ravens home games. Comprised of more than 300 musicians, flagline, color guard and equipment crew, Baltimore’s Marching Ravens is the largest musical organization associated with the NFL.
In addition to its game day duties, the band also stays active during the offseason by promoting the Ravens, Baltimore, and our city’s pride by taking part in various local events. Occasionally, the band takes its show on the road by representing Baltimore/Maryland in other cities.
Starting in March and running until the end of the football season, the band rehearses every Wednesday night from 7pm ’til 10pm at the Ravens Training Complex in Owings Mills.

MIKULSKI, CARDIN CHALLENGE CALIFORNIA SENATORS TO FRIENDLY WAGER PRIOR TO RAVENS, 49ERS SUPER BOWL XLVII
Faidley’s crab cakes, Heavy Seas beer, Berger cookies on the line in challenge to Senators Feinstein and Boxer
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) today placed a friendly wager with California Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer (both D-Calif.) on the outcome of Super Bowl XLVII between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. The teams compete for the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday, February 3 at the Superdome in New Orleans.
In their letter to the California Senators, Senators Mikulski and Cardin announced that they will be wagering Faidley’s crab cakes from Baltimore’s Lexington Market, Berger cookies made in the Cherry Hill neighborhood of Baltimore and Heavy Seas beer brewed in Lansdowne. Senator Mikulski will also throw in a can of one of Baltimore’s favorite hair sprays.
Senators Mikulski and Cardin will wait to hear from the California Senators to see if they accept their friendly wager and will plan an exchange at the U.S. Capitol in the days following the Raven’s victory Sunday.

Washington, DC 20510Dear Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer:
The Baltimore Ravens have shown they are a first-rate team who are taking us back to the Super Bowl to reclaim the Lombardi Trophy. We won the AFC Championship, and now we’re off to Louisiana to stomp the San Francisco 49ers and win the Super Bowl! The 49ers may ask ‘Who’s got it better than us?’ All across Baltimore they’ll say, ‘Charm City, that’s who!’
Baltimore is a world-class city with world-class fans. Super Bowl XLVII will be a real touchdown for the city of Baltimore! The Ravens have turned the national spotlight on Baltimore. We’ll showcase for the nation our winning team, our loyal fans and our world-class city!
You can be sure we’ll be cheering on Ray Lewis and the whole team in his last game as the Ravens fly high to victory! In fact, we’re so confident in our Ravens that we’re willing to wager a world-class feast: some delicious Faidley’s crab cakes, Berger cookies and a cold bottle of Heavy Seas beer to wash down the delicious taste of defeat. And so they won’t look ruffled after the Ravens prevail, Senator Barb will even throw in a can of one of Baltimore’s favorite hair sprays.
We’re looking forward to a great game. While the 49ers may come in red and gold, they’ll be seeing nothing but purple when they leave!

BOXER, FEINSTEIN MAKE SUPER BOWL BET WITH MARYLAND SENATORS
California Senators Respond to Challenge from Senators Mikulski and Cardin as 49ers Prepare to Take on Ravens
Washington, D.C. – California Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein made a bet today with Maryland Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin on the outcome of Super Bowl XLVII between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans on February 3.
Senators Boxer and Feinstein responded to a letter from the Maryland Senators, who challenged them to a bet and vowed that the Ravens would “stomp” the NFC Champion 49ers and that “[w]hile the 49ers may come in red and gold, they’ll be seeing nothing but purple when they leave!”
The California Senators responded, “We have full confidence that the San Francisco 49ers will strike gold – and the Baltimore Ravens will flutter away in defeat – as we claim our sixth Super Bowl title.”
The Maryland Senators are wagering some Baltimore favorites – Faidley’s crab cakes, Berger cookies and Heavy Seas beer – along with a can of one of Baltimore’s favorite hair sprays from Senator Mikulski. In return, Senators Boxer and Feinstein are betting a San Francisco feast: Dungeness crab, Napa Valley wine, sourdough bread and a selection of Northern California cheeses.
“We feel that it is only fitting that crab is on the menu since you are likely to be feeling very crabby after a tough loss by your Ravens,” Senators Boxer and Feinstein wrote.
The letter from the Maryland Senators is here. The following is the letter in response from the California Senators:

The Honorable Barbara Mikulski The Honorable Ben Cardin

Washington, DC 20510 Washington, DC, 20510Dear Senator Mikulski and Senator Cardin:
We were happy to receive your letter and are delighted to join in a wager on Super Bowl XLVII. We have full confidence that the San Francisco 49ers will strike gold – and the Baltimore Ravens will flutter away in defeat – as we claim our sixth Super Bowl title.
For more than 60 years, 49er fans have celebrated the incredible accomplishments of this storied franchise, including five Super Bowl titles. Today, our team continues this tradition of excellence under reigning NFL Coach of the Year Jim Harbaugh and talented athletes who play with grit and heart, from our explosive young quarterback Colin Kaepernick and powerhouse running back Frank Gore to a hard-nosed defensive unit that is the envy of the entire league.
Of course, San Francisco sports fans have had many opportunities to cheer on our teams in championship games in recent years. In fact, after the San Francisco Giants swept the Detroit Tigers in the World Series in October, we enjoyed celebrating with Michigan chocolates and wine courtesy of Senators Levin and Stabenow, who were kind enough to make a similar wager. Now we look forward to once again enjoying the spoils of victory, and we can’t wait to sample savory Maryland crab cakes, Baltimore beer and Berger Cookies after the 49ers complete their quest for a sixth title.
In return, we are proud to bet some delicious Dungeness crab, Napa Valley wine, San Francisco’s finest sourdough bread and a selection of Northern California cheeses. We feel that it is only fitting that crab is on the menu since you are likely to be feeling very crabby after a tough loss by your Ravens.
We look forward to meeting with you after the Super Bowl to toast two great football teams – and especially the Super Bowl Champion San Francisco 49ers!
Barbara Boxer Dianne Feinstein
