An Edgewood man was in critical condition Thursday night after police said he was struck by an SUV while crossing a local road.
According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Myles Daye Murphy, 22, of the 800 block of West Spring Meadow Court in Edgewood was struck shortly after 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hanson Road and Woodbridge Center Way in Edgewood.
Investigators determined that a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Donnita Adams, 32, of Edgewood was traveling westbound on Hanson Road when Murphy ran from the Woodbridge Valley community toward the Harford Square community and entered the roadway. Police said Adams swerved to avoid Murphy but was unsuccessful.
Murphy was treated at the scene by the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and flown by Maryland State Police Medevac to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
Sheriff’s Office deputies attributed the accident to pedestrian error, and charges have not been filed against Adams.
Pamela D. Beverly says
I’m very sorry to hear about the pedestrian being injured but people have got to heed what your mother told you all those years ago – look both ways before you cross the street! Every day I encounter the same problem – pedestrians stepping in the street, never stopping, staring at their cell phones and never looking up. Worse, some of them do it in the dark of night and outside of a crosswalk.

Especially those trying to look cool by wearing all black.
Gavin DeFord says
Thank God it wasn’t a worse outcome.
jaywalker says
Does anyone think the jaywalker is at fault? Would you say the same thing if a person puts his hand in front of a pitbull? He walked out into the street and was hit. If i walk in to the path of a car, on hansen road, I would think I would get hit.Don’t feel sorry for me because I WALKED INTO THE PATH. Who cares about the outcome? I feel sorry for the driver of the vehicle.
Pamela D. Beverly says
I would shake my head with pity at someone putting his hand in front of a pitbull or as Mr. T. would say, I would pity the fool. Sure, this pedestrian was at fault for darting into the street but that still doesn’t prevent me from wishing him well. People just have to pay more attention when crossing the street and when driving, for that matter. And yes, I do feel sorry for the driver because no one wants to go through that experience. Driving can be nervewracking enough.
