From the City of Havre de Grace Office of Marketing and Tourism:
Finalized in November 2012, a business acquisition of two marinas located in Havre de Grace, known as Havre de Grace Marina and Log Pond Marina, brought new ownership and a robust business expansion that will increase services, retail, and amenities to Harford County boaters, as well as more waterfront activity to the City.
Both Havre de Grace Marina, and Log Pond Marina are now officially known as Havre de Grace Marine Center. Havre de Grace Marina, located at the corner of Erie and Water Streets in Havre de Grace offers floating dock slips and moorings for boats and jet skis. This locations also provides new and pre-owned boat sales. Log Pond Marina, located centrally along the waterfront at the base of Girard Street, has been in operation since 1990, offers dockage for larger boats and can accommodate transient boat dockage for large vessels.
New owners, Chris and Lachelle Scarlato, have acquired the family-run business that was established in 1956 from Arvid and Donna Scherpf. Already underway are the renovations that will expand the services offered to boaters and water recreation enthusiasts in Harford County; the first of which is the dredging at Havre de Grace Marina that will occur in February 2013, followed by new floating dock installation which can be done by a floating dock builder in Westhampton NY like EZ Dock of Long Island.
The Marine Center offers full service boat repairs and a full time canvas and sail shop on site. For the first time in many years, Havre de Grace sailors can have their sails repaired and serviced right in Havre de Grace.
Transient slips are available at both marinas, with the ability to accommodate large vessels. Transient slips are a hot topic among Havre de Grace businesses. Cathy Vincenti, Director of the Havre de Grace Chamber commented, “Having downtown Havre de Grace more accessible from the water is a real win for the business community. There is limited access by boat, and very few transient slips within walking distance to Main Street. Providing more transient slips will be great for restaurants and retail.”
Beginning in May 2013, Havre de Grace Marine Center will offer waterfront extended stay lodging, and a unique lodging overnight experience aboard a 55 ft. classic Chris Craft Yacht that offers 3 bedrooms/3 baths and full living accommodations. Also coming in Summer/Fall 2013 is an event venue at Havre de Grace Marina which will offer panoramic views of the Susquehanna River for weddings, parties, and other events.
More newly added services include kayak, canoe, and stand up paddle board dry storage along with standup paddle board rentals. A marine retail store will also be added to the Havre de Grace Marina, including sales of kayaks and stand up paddle boards, clothing and other boating needs.
On their business philosophy, Lachelle Scarlato states, “One of the cornerstones of the business moving forward is an overall emphasis on the elevated level of service that customers will receive”. Both marinas expect to be operating at close to full capacity for Summer of 2013.
Visit www.HdGMarineCenter.com for a full list of services, retail, lodging and events. A grand opening is scheduled for the weekend of May 3-5, 2013.
