Harford Transit LINK Provides Larger Capacity Buses; Higher Demand for Service Creates Need for Larger Buses

A new look is coming to Harford Transit buses. Expect to see larger, 30 passenger buses traveling to Harford Community College and major employers as Harford Transit meets the need of increased ridership to work, to school, and to shopping.

More people than ever are utilizing Harford County’s bus system, Harford Transit LINK, due in part to an increase in Harford County’s overall population and the growing number of senior citizens and Harford Community College students relying on bus services, as well. To provide better and more efficient service, Harford Transit LINK will receive eight 30-passenger Gillig buses. Gillig buses are highly regarded by the U.S. transit industry; the buses have proven to be reliable, durable and economical to operate.

“With increased ridership came the need for more seating; the new buses allow thirty passengers to sit, with room for eleven more to stand,” state County Executive David Craig. “This will help alleviate the standing-room only buses we are currently operating and allow for more a more comfortable ride to work, school and shopping.”

Harford Transit LINK currently has one Gillig bus, with the other seven arriving later this winter; all were fully funded through the federal American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. The buses will primarily be utilized on the Green and Light Green Lines (Routes 1 and 1A), serving Havre de Grace, Aberdeen and Bel Air, then expanding use onto the Purple and Light Purple Lines (Routes 6 and 6A), serving Edgewood, Riverside, Perryman and Aberdeen.

Harford Transit LINK is a public bus system operating ten fixed routes Monday through Friday (except County holidays), serving Aberdeen, Abingdon, Bel Air, Belcamp, Churchville, Edgewood, Havre de Grace, Joppatowne, Perryman, Perryville (Cecil County), and points in between.

Harford Transit LINK also links to MARC Train services to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Additionally, Harford Transit LINK provides para-transit services for persons with disabilities and seniors in need of transportation.
