From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
[January 3, 2013, Belcamp, MD] — At approximately 8 p.m. on January 1, 2013 Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Golden Eagle Way in Belcamp for a report of a missing elderly male.
Upon arrival the deputies were told that Gary E. Folley, 67, was missing from his residence. He was reported to have dementia and barely able to walk. Witnesses reported seeing him walking out of his neighborhood approximately 30 minutes prior.
An immediate search of the area was conducted but to no avail. The weather conditions were cold with temperatures in the low to mid 30’s. It was dark and damp outside. Due to his age and medical condition deputies knew Mr. Folley was vulnerable to exposure and possibly death. They requested aviation support and a police bloodhound. Baltimore County Police Aviation Unit immediately responded and utilizing a FLIR device (a device capable of detecting a heat signature) was able to quickly locate Mr. Folley in the wooded area near his home and direct search deputies to his location.
Deputies found Mr. Folley lying in a stream cold, wet and suffering from exposure. Mr. Folley was treated at the scene by members of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company and then transported to Harford Memorial Hospital.
