From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
On Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at 5:50 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 4200 block of Chapelgate Court in Belcamp for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival deputies found David Woodfolk, 35, of Chapelgate Court, bleeding from a head injury. Woodfolk told deputies that although a shot was fired he wasn’t struck. He told police David LaMont Gregg, 40, of 3407 Periwinkle Way in Edgewood did strike him in the head with a black semi-automatic handgun. Deputies requested medical assistance for Woodfolk but he refused treatment.
Woodfolk told police David Gregg is his ex-wife’s husband. At approximately 5:40 p.m., Gregg came to the residence on Chapelgate Court to drop off Mr. Woodfolk’s two children, ages 9 and 3. As Gregg walked toward the home he reportedly pulled a handgun and pointed it at Mr. Woodfolk’s head. A physical altercation then took place. As they began to wrestle they fell to the ground. Woodfolk heard a shot fired and then saw Gregg fleeing toward Rt. 543.
Deputies responded to David Gregg’s residence in Edgewood. Upon arriving at that location they located Gregg and observed a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was treated at the scene and then flown by Maryland State Police Medivac to University of Maryland Shock Trauma where he was treated and later released from the hospital. Upon returning to his residence he was arrested by police and charged with first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm in the commission of an assault, and carrying a concealed dangerous weapon. He is being held without bond in the Harford County Detention Center.

So my first question is are the kids okay and what on Gods earth makes this clown think pulling a gun out with kids around is in any way safe. I can only imagine the example of a “father” pulling a gun on someone with kids in tow. Of course there is more to the story, but glad he shot himself rather than anybody else if it did go off. You’ve got to be kidding me….and for the record…I bet he isn’t an NRA member. I’m a member and tired of these idiots somehow flaming media headlines for gun control. Bet if you actually charged him and sentenced him according to strict gun laws presently on the books (rather than plea bargain 95% of the time)….you’d send a message.

I bet O’Malley will cite Mr Gregg is an example of violent gun owners during the upcoming legislative session, neglecting to mention that Mr Gregg was charged with attempted murder, assault and handgun violations in 2002 only to plea bargain to “only” the assault and was thus a prohibited felon. Is Mr Gregg going to be charged in federal court as a felon in possession of a firearm?

You can complain about plea bargains all you want, but pleas are usually what the courts want. Apparently the legal system doesn’t like actual trials anymore so they pretty much offer plea bargains. If the defendant won’t take the plea, they just leave him in jail until he takes the plea. The plea bargain can and will be used as a method to extort convictions from innocent defendants. On the other hand, guilty defendants that take the plea are given shorter sentences that don’t have to follow Maryland Rules in the Circuit Court. It is a godsend for 1st timers that deserve a second chance, even though you never get a second chance, no matter what you’ve heard. Once you’re branded you will always be considered what they branded you. Police and the courts don’t believe in rehabilitation or that someone changed their life. That is why once you have a record they can investigate without probable cause or reasonable cause and the courts will go along with it “in good faith”.

Repeat offender, repeat offender… Kharn is right on the money. We have more laws (particularly around firearms) than most citizens would ever imagine. So why do we hear these stories every day? Because our criminal justice system is so soft and ineffective that we simply produce repeat offenders. Would someone please pull out a list of all of the murderers from 2012 in Baltimore City alone and tell the public how many of them were repeat offenders of violent crimes? How many were felons and prohibited from even touching a firearm? How many legally purchased their firearms? Get the picture? This situation is disgusting -it is destroying lives and costing the taxpayer a fortune. O’Malley will love this story to support his agenda …less rights and more powerful government.
