If your New Year’s resolution includes road-tripping in style, you’re in luck. The Department of Defense is looking to offload an authentic 1973 Airstream “Sovereign Land Yacht” vintage trailer used by the US Military to transport officials and senior ranking officers inside a military cargo plane.
The Airstream was strapped inside the plane to create a luxury area inside the jet for Vice Presidents, First Ladies, Generals and Admirals, who were among the more frequent travelers. These types of Airstreams were also used by NASA to transport astronauts to launch pads. No longer needed by the military, it is going up for public auction via DoD online auction site Government Liquidation (www.GovLiquidation.com), the exclusive sales channel for DoD surplus and scrap items. Starting bid for the Airstream is $150.
Bidding for the Airstream begins on Monday, December 24 at 12am ET and closes on Thursday, December 27 at 5pm ET.
