A vehicle caught fire on the exit ramp of Interstate 95 in Havre de Grace Sunday night, but its driver fled the scene before authorities arrived.
According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the driver of a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan stopped the vehicle on the exit ramp of northbound I-95 at Exit 89. The vehicle was subsequently reported on fire at 10:19 p.m. by a passing motorist, but its driver was not at the scene as emergency crews arrived.
A total of 11 firefighters from the Level Volunteer Fire Company brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes. Investigators determined the fire began in the vehicle’s engine compartment, and caused $2,000 in damage to the minivan and $100 in damages to its contents.
