From the Harford County Democratic Central Committee:
Dear Editor,
The Democratic Central Committee of Harford County would like to inform voters of our recommendations regarding the following state and county ballot issues:
STATEWIDE QUESTIONS
Question 1 – FOR
Constitutional Amendment (Ch. 394 of the 2011 Legislative Session)
Qualifications for Prince George’s County Orphans’ Court Judges
(Amending Article IV, Section 40 of the Maryland Constitution)
Questions 1 and 2 require Judges of the Orphans’ Courts to be attorneys. These are common sense amendments. The law on estates and trusts can be some of the most complicated areas of the law, and having non-attorneys ruling on such cases could be a costly mistake.
Question 2 – FOR
Constitutional Amendment (Ch. 146 of the 2012 Legislative Session)
Qualifications for Baltimore County Orphans’ Court Judges
(Amending Article IV, Section 40 of the Maryland Constitution)
Question 3 – FOR
Constitutional Amendment (Ch. 147 of the 2012 Legislative Session)
Suspension and Removal of Elected Officials
(Amending Article XV, Section 2 of the Maryland Constitution)
Question 4 – FOR
Referendum Petition
(Ch. 191 of the 2011 Legislative Session)
Public Institutions of Higher Education – Tuition Rates – “Dream Act”
Question 4 is commonly called the DREAM act. Those opposed to this ballot question have spread considerable misinformation about the DREAM act. Question 4 will allow children who have completed 3 years of high school in Maryland and whose parents have paid Maryland taxes for at least 3 years to attend Maryland colleges at the in-state tuition rate. The first two years must be at a community college, and this Act does not take away any student slots for anyone. This is NOT any sort of give-a-way, and in fact is budget neutral. This act assures that students whose parents have paid their taxes have the benefit of in-state tuition that they deserve.
Question 5 – FOR
Referendum Petition
(Ch. 1 of the 2011 Special Session)
Congressional Districting Plan
Establishes the boundaries for the State’s eight United States Congressional Districts based on recent census figures, as required by the United States Constitution.
Question 6 – FOR
Referendum Petition
(Ch. 2 of the 2012 Legislative Session)
Civil Marriage Protection Act
Question 6 is about Marriage Equality. Right now Maryland law allows discrimination against same-sex couples when it comes to the benefits of marriage. This act replaces those old discriminatory laws, allowing same-sex couples to have all the rights that straight couples currently enjoy. It also protects the rights of religious officials and institutions by not requiring them to perform or recognize ceremonies contrary to their beliefs.
Question 7 – FOR
Gaming Expansion Referendum
(Ch. 1 of the Second 2012 Special Session)
Gaming Expansion
COUNTY CHARTER AMENDMENTS
On Harford County Charter Amendments, the Harford County Democratic Central Committee recommends voting “Against” Question A and “For” Questions B through G.
Question A – AGAINST
Vacancy of the County Executive
Question B – FOR
Post Council Employment
Question C – FOR
Eligibility for Redistricting Commission
Question D – FOR
Exempt Employees
To Amend the Harford County Charter to modify the list of exempt personnel positions to be consistent with the pay and classification plan.
Question E – FOR
Definition of a Pending Zoning Case
To Amend the Harford County Charter by defining a pending zoning case as a current case filed and/or pending with the Zoning Hearing Examiner, County Council, Circuit Court for Harford County and/or Court of Appeals.
Question F – FOR
Posting Requirements for Public Notices
To Amend the Harford County Charter by requiring public notices be posted in one newspaper widely circulated in Harford County and on an official site.
Question G – FOR
Filing Dates for Annual Budget
To Amend the Harford County Charter by allowing an additional 15 days for the budget to be submitted by the County Executive and adopted by the County Council.
Thank you for your attention. I look forward to this posting on your website.
Wendy Sawyer, Chair
Harford County Democratic Central Committee
Stan says
Im Voting no against giving illegal aliens anything. Im voting no on Omalleys new districts, Im voting No on expanded gambling. Im voting no on every incumbent.
Susan R says
Wow the Video of the Democratic Comptroller Peter Franchot against it made me vote no.
OnPoint says
I am mostly in agreement with Stan’s comments and will vote AGAINST most of the questions. Any YES vote for 4, 5, 6 or 7 is a vote for O’Malley. Regardless of your personal feelings, vote against these questions until O’Malley is out of office. Show this spendaholic Governor that it is the people who have the power.
Rita Lowe says
AND people in you know where want you know what. My vote is NO to it all.
Paul Mc says
I’m voting Yes for 1 and 2; yes for 3; no for 4; no for 5; yes for 6; yes for 7.
David A. Porter says
Compliments to you Paul for voting “Yes” on six. Mark this in your calendar.
Fact Check says
I can’t believe they are for Question B. To me, this post council employment with the County is one of the most corrupt things on the ballot.
Ed Kabernagel says
What politician had this put to vote?
ProudDemocrat says
I am pretty sure that the New Harford Democratic Club has endorsed a ‘no’ vote on question B. This question appears to be crafted specifically for the current Council President who I am sure would like to get a 100k plus job working for the ‘presumptive County Executive’ in 2014.
The Money Tree says
Planning and zoning perhaps?
Fact Check says
I imagine that because of the Republican push to vote no on all the State ballot questions, and with a strong Republican county population, many of these local questions will fail as well. Kind of ironic if the Republican County Council gets screwed by the Republican leanings of the county against the State questions.
JtowneJeff says
funny how the dems talk about the opposition to #4 spreading misinformation, then proceed to do the exact same thing. parents of illegal students under the law need only FILE a tax return, not actually PAY income taxes.
Tired of Jeff says
Calculate what you and your brood are costing the county and state versus what you’ve paid into the same.
You are taking more than you give, so stop throwing stones.
JtowneJeff says
My wife and I pay more in taxes than you think, regardless of having a large family. Because we went to school to get good jobs with respectable salaries so that we could afford to have a large family.
either way, even if my family was on welfare, WIC, foodstamps and medicaid, we’re still U.S. CITIZENS AND LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE STATE!
All I did was point out the hypocracy that I saw. The personal attack shows what kind of person you really are.
Jeff
Still Tired of Jeff says
6 kiddos and maybe more coming?
6 x $4K (roughly per pupil per year amount) for 12 years assuming no special services
= $288K
40 years of property taxes (joppatowne) so around $125K
288 – 125 (education and property tax numbers will adjust together for inflation)
= $163K net from the county to your family for school alone
Factor in county roads and services which pretty much cancels your salaries local tax and your still way ahead.
You federal taxes, SS, and medicare payments go to those places not the county.
That leaves state taxes on salaries which are also already allocated elsewhere. A trickle flows back to the schools.
“even if my family was on welfare, WIC, foodstamps and medicaid, we’re still U.S. CITIZENS AND LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE STATE!”
Essentially your family is on welfare by way of your kid’s education costs. Congratulations on being a citizen and enjoy the handout.
JtowneJeff says
STILL TIRED – I find your numbers to be a bit fuzzy, since you offered no sources for your data. But that is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that everything I have, I have worked for. I have never in my life received a complete tax refund on my Federal or state returns. I pay into the systems of federal, state, and local taxes, as well as into social security (which I will reap no returns from), I pay taxes on my investments and my interest earnings, and I pay taxes on everything I purchase, just like everyone else. My children do not take a bus to school, nor do they receive any “special” services. I have to pay for private preschool for my children, since the only qualifier for public preschool in harford is income, and I don’t qualify.
The very simple fact of the matter is that my original comment was simply to point out the hypocrisy of the article’s author by stating that DREAM student parents must PAY income taxes, when in fact they need only to FILE income taxes.
You then proceeded to launch an uncalled for personal attack on me, completely irrelevant to my original point. That’s usually referred to as a STRAWMAN.
In simple rebuttal to your attacks on me, I pay more in taxes at every level than I could possibly hope to get in return. If you’re upset about the amount of money spent on my children’s public education, then I suggest you call your legislators, at all levels, and urge them to pass legislation for charter schools, vouchers, or even an opt-in program. for example: If i choose not to send my children to public schools, I don’t pay taxes for public schools.
From all of your personal attacks, I can only assume that you are a Dagger troll, posting under a variety of names, or that you are someone who knows me in real life, and is too scared to say these things to my face, or even announce your true identity in this forum.
ponder that, friend.

Doggone Tired of J says
What I grow tired of from you and many others is the holier than thou attitude of priveledge that comes from the fact that you believe you pay more than you get.
Calculate your share of defense spending based on per capita numbers and you’ve already covered a significant portion of taxes you’ve paid.
For your family your share of defense spending is approxiamtely 13K per year. Now add schools, roads, services, etc…
You are as much on the dole as other people despite your belief and insistence to the contrary.
Nothing personal but your now the poster child for american indifference to math that goes beyond self interest.
Numbers don’t care who your are or what you believe.
JtowneJeff says
There is no ‘holier than thou’ attitude. I do not feel ‘privileged’, either.
Defense spending has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. But since you brought it up, defense spending is an enumerated duty of the federal government. Everyone who pays federal taxes funds the military and defense budget. Are you suggesting that lower income households should not be defended as strongly as a wealthier household, because they provided less funding? Or are you suggesting that larger families, regardless of income, should be taxed more, because there are more citizens to defend? Either way, you’re wrong.
How, exactly, did you calculate my family’s share of defense spending? Based on what? My family income? that which you have no actual knowledge of? o.k.
“On the dole”? Because I drive on public roads and send my kids to public schools? please. everything mentioned in an attempt to say that I am on the dole, or on welfare, or whatever, were things that everyone benefits from, regardless of direct use or contribution. Everyone with a car drives on public roads, whether they make $10,000 a year of $1,000,000 a year. The higher earner pays more in taxes to pay for the construction and maintenance of those roads. Should he drive on them more? can he set the rules of the roads? don’t be ridiculous.
“Nothing personal but your now the poster child for american indifference to math that goes beyond self interest.” And you’re the poster child for poor grammar. No, but seriously… indifference? Really? I am one of only a very few people who vote based on the benefit of the county, state, district, or country, rather than on my own personal benefit. For example: I don’t expect to see any direct benefit from voting for Romney, but I believe that he and Rep. Ryan have a clear plan for the debt, deficit, and budget that will set America on a better path to fiscal stability and strength. The current administration has no such plan, therefore, I will cast my vote for Romney. Show me the self-interest in that.
Again, I will repeat my original point: DREAMer’s parents are not required to PAY income taxes, as was claimed, they are only required to FILE A TAX RETURN. I pointed out a blatant hypocrisy. In return, baseless personal attacks from people to ashamed and frightened to post their true identity on a website forum. The simple fact that no one has attempted to refute or deny my original claim is telling.
Jeff
Exhausted by J says
pedantics aside, math is math
You and your family get more goods and services than you directly pay for and thus are a beneficiary of other people’s payments.
AKA being on the dole
I calculate defense spending on a per capita basis as I also calculate most things besides education which is on a per pupil basis.
Basically, everyone contributes to pay for what they get. If it is your kids then you contribute for them.
You are quite correct in stating you are not voting your own self interest by voting for Romney. Under a pay/go, fee structured, or direct tax in = services out plan you would owe more. If Ryan has his way you will owe much more.
Did I digress from your original post? Certainly.
The point was to show the hypocrisy of you pointing out hypocrisy.
You will deny social services for people whether they be legal immigrant or otherwise but will not concede that your family is taking benefit of the system albeit through different channels.
The illegals cost me money, but so do you and your family.
give me real math and real ideals

JtowneJeff says
EXHAUSTED BY J –
“You and your family get more goods and services than you directly pay for and thus are a beneficiary of other people’s payments.” – as do most people in this country. that is how the progressive tax system works. I also happen to pay more in taxes, as a percentage and as a dollar amount, than more than half of the citizens of this country.
“You are quite correct in stating you are not voting your own self interest by voting for Romney. Under a pay/go, fee structured, or direct tax in = services out plan you would owe more. If Ryan has his way you will owe much more.” – this is not particularly the forum for this discussion, I simply used it as an example. What I would prefer is a less progressive, flatter tax code, without loopholes for favored industries/businesses.
“The point was to show the hypocrisy of you pointing out hypocrisy.?You will deny social services for people whether they be legal immigrant or otherwise but will not concede that your family is taking benefit of the system albeit through different channels.” – There was no hypocrisy in my statement. I was not the one to compare me and my family to illegal immigrants. The author accused others of spreading misinformation, while spreading his own. THAT was my point. A college education is not a social service. It is (or at least should be) a privilege for citizens of the country who have successfully completed 12 years of elementary and secondary education and are in pursuit of a career requiring additional knowledge and training. What has happened, over decades, is that state and federal governments have injected themselves into an arena in which they simply do not belong. The individuals who would qualify for reduced tuition costs under this law do not meet even the first requirement. They are not U.S. citizens. Why should a citizen of a foreign country be permitted to pay a lower tuition cost at UMBC than American citizen who happens to live in Virginia? At least the latter is in the right country.
“The illegals cost me money, but so do you and your family.” – Rest assured, aside from public services that EVERYONE benefits from, my family costs you NOTHING. Remember, those schools and roads and libraries that you say I don’t pay my “fair share” for are being used by illegals, welfare leaches, teachers, business owners, postal workers, etc., and you. They are a public service. College is not. At least not until O’Malley and Co. legislate that all state residents must complete 2-4 years of post-secondary school.
“give me real math and real ideals ?vote-libertarian” – let me know how that vote for Gary Johnson works out for you.

DEAD TIRED –
“The only thing worse than a dreamy democrat is a rabid republican.
Your twitter feeds and website posts backup your membership in the rabid category.” – Rabid conservative I’ll accept. Republican, not so much. I am registered with the R’s because Maryland holds closed primary elections.
“Please continue to vote against your long term self interest, for your religion, and against the numbers. The day will come that you have to pay your true costs, or your kids certainly will.” – My votes are based on founding principles, not my own selfish interests and desires. I vote for those who I believe can help return America to those founding principles, so that my children won’t have to pay for it, or at least not as much.
“A few more years will add some wisdom to you, or cement you into a party fixture. When are you running for office?” – Yes, with age comes wisdom, generally speaking. Party fixture, not happening. I’ve considered running for office. After all, the only candidate who can espouse my beliefs 100% is me.
The cognitive decline of America is before us disguised as tech savvy people who know everything except basic math. I’m just going to sit back and watch the mayhem unfold.” – Sounds like someone is a little jealous of the youthful zeal of others. Go ahead and sit back and watch. Don’t come crying when you don’t like the outcome of the battle if you’re not willing to fight.
No further replies needed, so relax your twitchy fingers.” – Comments like that only encourage replies; surely you know this.

Arturro Nasney says
Like most of us in the middle to upper middle class, you are paying approximately 60% of your hard earned wealth into a tax system that favors the unproductive. Yes 60%. Add up your income, property, sales, gas, etc, etc, etc taxes and fees and you easily hit 60%. Just for the yucks of it, look at it this way: wealth is created by the production of goods or services. The economy requires this basic function in order to survive. If government take 60% of that wealth and turns it into whatever programs, it has removed 60% of the engines output. A certain amount is essential for safety, essential services, etc, for the COMMON GOOD. This model requires that 100% of us produce. When we find 47% consuming without any production, it doesn’t take a skilled mathematician to see that the model is about to fail. BYE BYE
roman says
Arturo “rommney”style? The 47% pay social security, state, local income, sales and gas taxes as much as you do. Your vision is too narrow and small minded. Once you factor in your “hard earned” tax credits for energy conservation-for the richer, mortgage interest deduction-more beneficial for the rich, college tax credits-not for the poor or disabled, and capital gain exclusions-again not for the poor, the fact is that the rich get more out of this incredibly complex tax system that rewards off-shore accounts, reduced rates for “carried interest* which is no more than income turned into royalties you will find out that the effective rate of the rich is way lower than my daughter working at Chuckee Cheese since she doesn’t get any tax credits since I carry her on my tax return as a full time college student. You and Mitt can stick it and plainly shove it.
Still Tired of Jeff says
watch me pull 60% out my hat…
socialist nations take 60%
and the U.S.A. certainly is not socialist
I agree almost all should be contributing but those who are reaping the largest benfit of the economy which is a function of the US social structure should pay more as well.
Yes even those on welfare pay taxes in the form of sales taxes and fees, although I’d prefer they just get a job.
I prefer my numbers and ideals to be real.

Arturro Nasney says
Great job of starting with a negative roman. The fact of the matter is that the 47% you so scathingly refer to as “romney style” is in fact supported by facts. Within the 47% are many who are on social security retirement and for any number of reasons should be excluded from the total, however it is just about impossible to determine who they are in the obfuscated numbers that are currently available. The remainder of those who fall into this category only pay social security and medicare on “earned income.” They are not paying local, state and income taxes however. Yes they pay consumption taxes in forms of of sales, gas, and user fees. In that you are correct. They rely on government largess for their existence and take more out than they put in and that is the crux of the problem. At what point does a person say “that’s enough”? For those of us in the middle or upper middle class, there are not many “loop holes.” Those were written in for the very wealthy. As we get on in years, we don’t even get a mortgage deduction any more so are paying the nominal rate on the whole enchilada. So I and many like me are saying, why bother going out and earning anything at all? If 30% is going to be confiscated from the from end for local, state, and federal income and social security and medicare, why bother at all? Now I move into the 47% and produce no wealth but consume from someone else. How long can that go on? At some point we will run out of other people’s money to spend. BY BYE
Dog Tired says
Make up your mind, is it 60% or 30% ?
The mortgage interest deduction is a rebate on your mortgage interest rate. As you get on in years prusumably you’ve paid off the mortgage and the deduction will not matter because you are paying no interest. For illustration instead of paying the full 10K a year in interest to a bank the government gives you 2K back. You are still paying 8K a year. At no point are you paying the ‘whole enchilada’ unless Romney is elected. I’d rather have my house paid off and get to keep my ‘enchilada’ instead of sharing it with the bank and having the government mitigate some of the costs.
If you are going to try to make a point at least use real numbers that are verifiable by someone who can do something other than fuzzy math and spout party rhetoric.
I prefer my numbers and ideals to be real.

Yes only File a tax return so that they can get the Earned income Credit. More of our money going to illegal aliens. Maryland is officially a Sanctuary state.
CDEV says
Similar to whoever is funding the patently false question 6 ad claiming gay marriage will be taught in schools!
JtowneJeff says
CDEV – homosexual relationships are ALREADY taught in public schools, per Maryland statute, and in a very favorable light.
Jeff
Doggone Tired of J says
What light is that? Incandescent, flourescent, or hot pink neon?
Please post the official Maryland curriculum or lesson plan that states the manner or need to teach homosexuality in schools.
JtowneJeff says
Oops. my bad. “statute” was the wrong word to use. homosexuality is, however, covered considerably under Maryland’s ‘Family and Consumer Science’ program. While this is a voluntary program at the state level, it is in place in every single jurisdiction in Harford County.
CDEV – does your wife teach health and/or science? because if not, she likely won’t encounter this.
Also, be aware that any health class that covers reproduction and/or STD’s, the topic of homosexuality WILL come up. Teachers are instructed on “inclusion”. That is, being overtly sensitive to not offend any minority group. Therefore, any discussion of homosexuality will be cast in a non-negative way, regardless of the proven health risks associated with such a lifestyle choice.
Jeff
Cdev says
My wife teaches science. Family and Consumer Science (formerly Home Ec) would not cover this. BTW my wifes Middle School does not have FACS anymore and when they did she doubts it would have been covered since the teacher only covered stages of child development, sewing and cooking.
I see your point on the Health curriculum but that is a far cry from actually teaching homosexuality. They do not teach kids about it, they simply avoid the topic. That is not teaching Homosexuality as the ad I reffered to suggested.
Cdev says
Please cite the COMAR regulation or statute you refer to. My wife can not find this in her curriculum guide, she needs to alert HCPS that they failed to include it!!!!
JtowneJeff says
CDEV –
“Family and Consumer Science (formerly Home Ec) would not cover this” – I have read the curriculum for FACS, and it goes well beyond Home Ec., at least the Home Ec. that I remember.
“I see your point on the Health curriculum but that is a far cry from actually teaching homosexuality. They do not teach kids about it, they simply avoid the topic. That is not teaching Homosexuality as the ad I reffered to suggested.” – Perhaps the problem is that I have not seen the ad you are talking about. Regardless, the concept of homosexuality and homosexual relationships are being taught at HCPS. This topic was discussed at the BoE meeting last month. That is my source. And a few high school teacher friends.
But, regardless of the ad or who is correct in our little debate here, I am voting against #6 on religious grounds. Also, I am an angry racist bigot.
Haha, just kidding about the last part.

Hey Arturro,
I like playing Hold ’em. I would much rather drive 10 minutes to Perryville as opposed to 40 minutes to Delaware Park. Also, it keeps money in the state (I doubt it will be used for education, as it is supposed to be), which is better than in another state. Also, it will create jobs in Maryland. Though, to be honest, the most important reason is I like table games and don’t want to drive as far.
Anyways, have a nice day.
ALEX R says
And the tax cuts for the casinos on the heels of tax increases for you and for all citizens means nothing to you? When people spend tons of money and spread tons of lies in order to get something passed I will crawl to the polls to vote against it if I have to. Once there, unlike Wendy Rosen, the candidate supported by the New Harford Democratic Club, I will only vote once.
Arturro Nasney says
Sorry Paul but the cost of the access to table games is too high. The tax break, given to the casino owners in this bill is adequate grounds to vote no. This thing is the very worst kind of cronyism.

Common Cent$ says
A.N., it’s as simple as keeping Maryland money in Maryland (not forcing the kind folks that want full gaming to drive AND spend their money out of state in ANY of our neighboring states where full gaming is available). It’s good for them AND it’s good for the state. (of course, if it’s good for the state, you’ll probably be against it!).
The House Always Wins says
Maryland to casino owners:
Please come and pillage our state as long as you let us shave a little off the top and as well we will not take as much as our neighbors.
Maryland to residents:
You’re too stupid to understand odds versus payoffs so trust us this is a good deal.
…and it’s for the children
don’t get me wrong, I don’t care if you want to gamble. I might join you, but this is a bad deal just like the last time.

It is just stupid.

Question 4
“…the benefit of in-state tuition that they deserve.” See, this is the real sticking point for me. How is it that someone who is here illegally is being denied something they “deserve”? They’re not supposed to be here and incentives like this will only attract others. What they “deserve” is a place in line in their home country waiting for legal entry just like everyone else… Does anyone think there would be a “Dream Act” at all if Hispanics voted predominately Republican?
Because says
What makes you believe that Republican voters have their own best interests at heart when they vote? Just watching the rhetoric that comes out of the mouths of Republican candidates and the gaze that their constituents have when they talk about their support is enough to make you believe they have been assimilated.
ALEX R says
It’s the payoff for voting for the Dems. You know that. Meanwhile, they take the jobs that our citizens who are on umemployment or can’t even find a job might get.
The highest unemploment rate in this county is among young black men. You tell me how black citizens can support and defend this legislation that takes jobs away from their young men who have more than enough challenges already. This is just an example of limousine liberals sticking it to their own supporters. If you are black, you know far better than I – a non-black – the issues among your own economically disadvantaged young people. I don’t think it is far-fetched for me to say to you that if you support this legislation you are doing further damage to them. This legislation encourages non-citizens here illegally to stay, others to come and everyone who pays tuition will see an increase because the money has to ocme from somewhere.
Amazed. says
Question 7:
I find Marty and the Annapolis machine about as effective as a cardboard hammer. They are so intent on handing out the free money that ensures their political survival that they find themselves in dire need of another casino and table games to make an attempt at closing their budgetary gaps… even after raising taxes. They’re a bunch of children and giving them question 7 only allows them to continue to be fiscally irresponsible. The budget won’t balance next year either – where else can we put a casino? You can look up the numbers and see how many millions have already poured into the “education trust fund”, whatever that animal might be, and ask yourself if you’ve seen ANY improvement in education in Maryland. Is there any tracking on that money? Where has it been spent?
The House Always Wins says
The casinos will come regardless of the tax breaks because it is still easy money so why give them even more?
Marc A Eaton says
NO on 4-5-6-7. No to the dream act, if your here illegally you get nothing. Go home and come back the legal way. Marriage is between a man and a women. We all know that the money from gambling will go to pet projects, you can not trust a politician with any money.

Marc, seems like common sense to me also.

The problem is the politicians will budget with the initial windfall of gambling money. Then when the novelty of gambling wears off- they will increase YOUR taxes for the stuff they over-budgeted for. All in the name of the children’s educations. I am voting no. If they wanted table games they should have put them in from the very beginning.
Cathy says
As a former Marylander who wised up a long time ago, I just sit and watch all this going on in Maryland in amazement. Sometime ago Lou Dobbs, formerly of CNN and now on Fox, did an economic comparison between Maryland and Virginia. It was amazing. Maryland has lost over 100,000 residents and thousands of businesses. Maryland is running a deficit, and Virginia has a surplus and a 5.2% unemployment rate. Now the kicker in this is that Maryland has a Democratic governor and a Republican runs Virginia.
O’Malley must think Maryland is a giant state as you can live in PA, VA, DE and still work in MD, so who’s he fooling. If defense spending gets cut like Obama wants, Maryland will be in terrible shape. Better get out while you can.

Here is the real kicker:
Virginia has had several democratic governors and the state did not implode!!!

I am glad that you were not around during our fight for independence because we would all still be drinking tea and working for the ruling monarchy in England. Clean up your own mess in PA and stay out of our politics. You made the choice to flee rather than fight so now your opinion is not welcomed. You seem to enjoy all too frequently posting the same type of garbage on this forum that trashes both Maryland and Marylanders. Regardless of political party, when you attack our state, you attack us all. I for one am glad you left and equally as glad that you will never return.

I used to live in Pa, and although some things were cheaper, many were more expensive. More taxes under different “fees.” Pa is no friend to small business owners. The grass is always greener for some.
