Following the sudden death of School Board President Leonard Wheeler, the Harford County Board of Education will elect a new president at a board business meeting planned for Oct. 22.
The new president will serve the remainder of Wheeler’s two-year term, which would have ended on July 20, 2013, according to Teri Kranefeld, HCPS manager of communications.
Board Vice President Rick Grambo has served as interim president since Wheeler’s death in September. All current board members are eligible to run for the leadership post except for the student member, Panashe I. Mutombo, and Thomas Fitzpatrick of Havre de Grace, who was appointed by Governor O’Malley in August and has not yet served the full year required for candidacy.
Further details were not immediately available. Please check back with The Dagger for updates on this developing story.
