Five dozen firefighters from nine local companies battled a two-alarm blaze which destroyed a vacant Churchville home late Sunday night, state fire officials said.
The fire broke out in a two-story home on the 3500 block of McCommons Road in Churchville, and was reported by a neighbor just before 11:30 p.m., according to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The home was owned by the Harford County Airport Owners Group, which operates the nearby Harford County Airport in Aldino.
An estimated 60 firefighters from the Level, Darlington, Susquehanna, Aberdeen, Perryville, Abingdon, Bel Air, Joppa-Magnolia and Aberdeen Proving Ground fire companies brought the blaze under control in approximately 30 minutes, the fire marshal’s office said.
The home was not occupied and was considered a total loss, including $200,000 for the structure and $20,000 for its contents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Northeast Regional Office at 410-836-4844.

When is one of these volunteer chiefs going to have the balls and say let it burn instead of a multi county, multi company 3 ring circus? No life hazard, no exposure, burn baby burn. It’s arson for profit most likely as it’s owned by the airport and they probably want to expand or something. It costs less to remove the debris after you burn it. It probably had asbesto’s shingles or siding and that cost’s big bucks to abate.

So I’m reading Friday’s Aegis today and lo and behold I see an article about Harford Airpark renovating. Gee, it doesn’t take Barney Fife to see a connection between the fire and expansion plans. Suspicious? I think so. Also they think a MSP helicopter will be there bringing Shock Trauma to Harford County. The helicopter is just a taxi to get people to the hospital, they do nothing special.
