From Harford County government:
The Green Star for the 4th quarter is Aaron Hall of Harford County Government Department of Procurement for collectively renegotiating the county recycling contract.
Recycling is a critical element within the sustainability initiatives; however wanting to recycle and having the capability to recycle can be two different things. Aaron Hall, of the Department of Procurement, recently renegotiated the recycling and refuse contract for the County to assure the County had the most efficient process for handling the recycling and refuse, but also to assure the contract was all inclusive for County facilities that want to recycle to be able to do so.
The renegotiation required participation from various departments and agencies to create a collective contract for the County’s facilities to recycle in a cost-effective way while reducing our environmental footprint.
The winning selection was voted on by the members of the Green Team. The selection process consisted of a review of all Green Stars awarded between April and June of 2012, to identify the top Green Star Award.
In 2008, County Executive David R. Craig formed the Energy Management Steering Committee, otherwise known as the Green Team, as one of his environmental initiatives. The goal of the Green Team is to guide energy and resource efficiency practices within the County. To foster a culture of sustainability, in June 2010 the Green Team created the Green Star Program to recognize actions by county employees that demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship, promote energy efficiency and resource management.
