From Maryland State Police:
State and county police are searching for a hit and run vehicle that struck and injured a woman in Harford County tonight.
The victim is identified only as a 28-year-old Harford County woman. She is not being named at this time because troopers are still attempting to locate and notify her family. She was transported from the scene to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where she is said to be in stable condition.
The suspect vehicle is only described as a ‘sky blue’ passenger car. The car has a broken passenger side mirror.
At about 7:40 p.m. today, State Police from the Bel Air Barrack responded to southbound Rt. 1 (Conowingo Road) just north of the Hickory bypass. Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies were there on the scene of a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.
Continuing the investigation, troopers have learned from a witness that the woman was near or in the roadway and was apparently waving her arms. The witness said the suspect vehicle swerved to the left, apparently attempting to avoid the woman, but struck her with the passenger side mirror. The suspect vehicle was seen pulling to the shoulder of the road momentarily about 500 feet from the scene of the crash, but then pulled away and left the area. A witness called 911 for assistance.
Anyone who has any information on the hit and run vehicle and/or driver is urged to contact the Maryland State Police at the Bel Air Barrack at 410-879-2101. Callers may remain confidential.
No further details are expected to be available tonight. The investigation is continuing.
