The Havre de Grace City Council will consider a resolution Monday night concerning the annexation of .8522 acres of commercial property along Old Post Road.
LOSA Corporation, a Delaware Corporation has sought annexation of its land and surrounding streets consisting of three lots and a total of .8522 acres on the west side of Old Post Road. According to the annexation plan, no one currently resides on the property, which contains a commercial block building and attached metal building. The property is currently served by public water and sewer and is zoned General Industrial on the official zoning maps of Harford County. All of the land that is subject to the annexation plan is proposed to be given the City zoning designation C, Commercial. Per the annexation agreement, the property will receive the benefit of city police, emergency medical and trash service, and will be taxed by the city at the applicable rates.
The city council will also consider a resolution Monday night concerning adoption of a plan to control cross connection and backflow contamination of the city’s potable water supply system, which is required by the state. The city’s Department of Public Works has a plan prepared by an independent firm and ready to be submitted to the Maryland Department of the Environment for approval. The mayor and city council are currently exploring the costs of implementing the control plan, as no costs or expenses for such a plan were included in the 2012/2013 budget.
Another resolution under consideration Monday involves support of a project to provide the Humane Society of Harford County with $50,000 in Community Investment Tax Credits to help fund the capital campaign for furniture, fixtures and equipment for the proposed new shelter. The the adoption of the resolution will allow the Humane Society of Harford County to apply for the tax credits to provide care and shelter for homeless animals of Harford County, as well as, to continue to provide education to citizens of Harford County for the humane treatment of animals. The Humane Society of Harford County is applying to the Department of Housing and Community Development of the State of Maryland for approval of the project and an allocation of tax credits for business entities and individuals that contribute to the project, under the Department’s Community Investment Tax Credit Program. The Department requires approval by the governing body of the county and the municipality in which the designated area to be benefited by the proposed project is located.
Also Monday night, the city council will present a proclamation to the Havre de Grace Rotary Club celebrating its 90 years, Lori Maslin will provide a presentations on the Havre de Grace Seafood Festival, and the city council will vote on approval of the special event Fun Fest, sponsored by Good Cause at Tydings Park on October 28.
