From Harford Community College:
Bryan E. Kelly, CFP, has been reelected Chair and Dr. James J. Valdes has been reelected Vice Chair of the Harford Community College Board of Trustees.
Bryan Kelly, managing partner/owner of The Kelly Group, has been a member of the Board since 2005 and has served two terms as Board Chair. He served as Vice Chair of the Board from 2008 to 2010. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Harford Community College Foundation, Inc. Mr. Kelly, a Certified Financial Planner, holds bachelor degrees in economics and finance from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a master’s degree in financial planning from The College for Financial Planning. He is co-chair of the Board of Directors of the UMBC Economics Visitors Council and was the 2007 UMBC Economics Alumnus of the Year. Mr. Kelly is former president of the executive committee for the Maryland Association of Community Colleges and former chair of the Advisory Board for the Academy of Finance at Edgewood High School. Mr. Kelly participated in Leadership Maryland, a statewide leadership development program. He is a member of Cambridge Investment Research’s National Leader Network. In addition, Mr. Kelly is a member of the Harford Leadership Academy Alumni Association.
Dr. Valdes, who was first elected Vice Chair in 2010, joined the Board in 2007. He is scientific advisor for biotechnology at the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, where he serves as the senior biological scientist and advisor to the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command Group, and he is Senior Research Fellow at the National Defense University’s Center for Technology and National Security Policy. Dr. Valdes holds a B.S. from Loyola University of Chicago, an M.S. from Trinity University, and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience/Chemistry of Behavior from Texas Christian University. He was a postdoctoral fellow in neurotoxicity at The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. Dr. Valdes is an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio and an adjunct professor in the Department of Bioengineering at he University of Maryland. He is the author of more than 130 scientific journal articles and 55 technical reports. He has given more than 300 presentations to international scientific professional groups, and he holds seven patents. In 2003 and 2009, Dr. Valdes received the Presidential Rank Award presented by the Secretary of the Army and the Vice Chief of Army Staff on behalf of the President.
