From Del. Pat McDonough:
TOP 10 REASONS WHY ‘SPECIAL SESSION” IS A BAD IDEA by DELEGATE PAT McDONOUGH
10) Gaming industry economics will be depressed by additional casino competition.
9) Six casinos will violate “fairness doctrine” by betraying investors of the original five locations contained in the Maryland Constitution.
8.) The disruption of the competition with a new casino will generate many job losses throughout the state.
7) The new competition will transform the existing facilities into “white elephants” creating a burden for the taxpayers.
6) This is a “sellout” special session where legislators will play the game “Let’s Make a Deal.”
5) The rush to judgment Special Session will not allow enough time for serious study of the economic issues.
4) All of the gambling issues can be addressed in the regular legislative session in January, 2013.
3) This is an abuse of power by Senate President Mike Miller to accommodate his “special interest” friends.
2) This is an abuse of power by Governor Martin O’Malley to accommodate his friends at MGM.
1) The Special Session is unconstitutional. There is no extraordinary or emergency reason to waste the taxpayers’ money.
Bottom Line – Winners, special interests. Losers, the taxpayers.
Original Observer says
Right on, Del. McDonough! My question now is, is there anything you and other defenders of Maryland taxpayers can do to derail this obscenity?
WheresPatton says
Yeah…they could play the political games since it’s basically a foregone conclusion, and force the Dem legislature and Gov to give us Shall Issue Gun Permiting instead of wasting our “precious tax dollars” litigating it out for another 2 years.

Its already hit The Hollywood casino in Cecil. The Arundle Mills casino has DRASTICALLY reduced revenue there. It was the first Casino in MD and will be the first that is sold.
ALEX R says
Yep. Now the Perryville casino wants to give back hundreds (up to 500) slots to the State which owns them rather than the casino owning them like everywhere else. Why does the State own the machines? Even the State Comptroller Democrat P. Franchot said this was a very, very bad move. But O’Malley, Miller and Busch will have their way. And why do they want to give them back? Because no one is using them and they have to pay the state for them.
HYDESMANN says
Why the rush for ANOTHER costly special session? Because the Dems, especially O’Malley, Busch and Miller want one. And since they run MD like their own private kingdom they will get what they want. Remember O’ Malley needs the big bucks from organized gambling to finance his run for president or senator and Busch and Miller are looking ahead to a nice high paying job if and when the people wise up and throw them out.

I agree 100% with all that was already said. Why can’t we have a recall vote for Govenor O’TaxMe?
