From the Bel Air Independence Day Committee:
Bel Air (June 13, 2012) – By popular demand, the Bel Air Independence Day Committee has extended the deadline for submission of applications to join the Bel Air July 4 Parade until June 22, one additional week!
“We’ve had a lot of really great applications so far,” said Parade Chairman Michael Blum, who is running his 20th consecutive Bel Air July 4th parade, “but many of the people I’ve been talking to say they need more time to get their plans together. We’re happy to allow them more time, because we’re interested in having the very best parade possible.”
On-line applications to join the parade, along with all of the event’s rules and other information, are available at the committee’s website, www.belairjuly4.org.
Parade entries can take the form of marching units, mobile units or floats, comic and novelty acts, antique vehicles, or equestrian units, among others. For groups interested in being a part of the parade but lacking a large vehicle to tow their float, a limited number of vehicles are available.
And, of course, the parade will feature the traditional assortment of bands from both near and far.
“As of right now, we’re looking at 20 bands,” said Blum, “including a terrific collection of local High School bands, and some very proficient out-of-town or even out-of-state bands. I’m happy to announce that the Philippine Heritage Band from Toronto will again be with us!”
Local high school marching bands already booked include Bel Air High School, C. Milton Wright High School, Edgewood High School, Fallston High School, Havre de Grace High School, Joppatowne High School, John Carroll School and Patterson Mill High School.
Parade entrants are strongly urged to decorate their unit appropriate to the patriotic event, and in keeping with this year’s theme: “Land of the Free.” The Bel Air Independence Day Committee wants to make sure that each unit reflects the spirit of the celebration with flags, banners, signs, or other patriotic displays.
