With the city already baking in summerlike weather, Aberdeen officials plan on adopting an ordinance Monday night making it clear that no one besides fire department officials or their official designees can open up and operate fire hydrants.
An amended Ordinance No. 12-O-08 is expected to be voted on for adoption by the Aberdeen City Council during its Monday night session. Specifically, the ordinance says that, “no person other than an authorized employee of the city or a member of a Fire Department acting under orders of his/her proper superior in the performance of his/her duties may operate a fire hydrant unless in possession of a permit from the city.” And that “fire hydrants may not be used for any purpose except by special permission as defied by the established policy of the Department of Public Works.”
Also Monday night, the city council will introduce a charter resolution concerning the annexation of the 38-acre, R-1 Low-Density Residential District, 830 Gilbert Road property. If approved, the resolution would become effective at the end of 45 days following its final enactment provided no petition for referendum is filed.
Monday night’s meeting will also include discussion of a wastewater treatment plant roof project and the Aberdeen Science and Math Academy GIS Project, as well as a presentation from Mark Schlottman of the Aberdeen Lion’s Club.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Aberdeen City Hall.
