The Bel Air Town Commissioners will hold a public hearing MOnday night on a proposed plan to charge an additional “convenience fee” to those town residents and businesses who pay their tax bills and other fees and charges by credit card.
Resolution 980-12 would impose a convenience fee for credit card payments. The town began accepting credit card payments for real estate taxes and sewer service charges in 2007. However, as the volume of residents and businesses making the payments has increased, the cost to the town for the ability to process such transactions has also increased. The resolution expected to be introduced Monday night would charge a fee of 3.15% of payment plus 25 cents per transaction for real estate payments by credit card and $4.95 per transaction with a maximum transaction of $250 for sewer service charges and Bay Restoration fees credit card payments.
Monday night’s agenda also includes resolutions regarding an FY 2012 budget amendment and the town’s fee schedule, ordinances concerning a building code amendment and parking fees & meter installation, a town policy about General Fund capital reserve and discussion of a revised July 4th parade route.
Also Monday night, the Bel Air Town Commissioners are expected to award contracts for professional auditing services, the George Street culvert, Bel Air High School bobcat sculpture, and fiber installation.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in Bel Air Town Hall.
