From Harford County government:
The Harford County Department of Treasury has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award is the result of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the period ending June 30, 2011.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The attainment of this award represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945, to encourage and assist state and local government to go beyond the minimum requirements of general accepted accounting principles and to prepared comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
Commenting on the award from the Government Finance Officers Association, Treasurer Kathryn Hewitt stated, “The Treasury Department is very proud to have received this Certificate of Excellence for Financial Reporting for the 27th consecutive year. It is a testament to the hard work and professionalism of the Treasury staff to be able to maintain this level of excellence year after year. I especially commend the accounting staff on being forward thinking and continuing to improved our financial processes and procedures.”
Also commenting on the recent award to the Department of Treasury, County Executive David R. Craig remarked, “The Harford County Department of Treasury has and continues to serve the public in an exemplary manner. I congratulate Treasurer Hewitt and her entire staff of dedicated professionals for their efforts in achieving the Excellence in Financial Reporting award from the Government Finance Officers Association”.
The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for Harford County Government was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including a process of clearly communicating the financial story of the county.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professional.
